I just bought a 700 belt. I had the 360 belt ordered but was lucky enough to be able to change it before shipped. The 700 belt is supposed to be stronger material. You can get one for $64.04 from Bob Tracys world of cycles, the phone number is 1-800-860-0686 and ask for part number 59011-0003.

SMITTY69... I'll bet you a Canadian dollar, that if the belt deflection has been set right, your secondary ( driven ) clutch bushing is worn... I have an '02 as well, at 1100 miles, mine stared going through belts...

the '02 model has a poor design & as far as Kawasaki is concerned, is not rebuildable ( it can have a bushing machined for it if you are, or know a machinist... when you go to order a new secondary clutch ( the only thing possible to do, unless you have the bushing made ), they will automatically send you the "improved" '03 model part...

sorry, but short of an obstruction to your CVT cooling air lines, getting the belt wet all the time, & improper belt deflection, this is most probably the cause of your short belt life...I got 1100 miles on my 1st belt, before my secondary became worn, then I started going through belts every few months, untill I checked realized the problem with the clutch...

Good luck, & welcome to the forum...WAM

I did some checking several hours ago. A complete P700 driven convertor assy from ronayers cost $303.55

The Drive and Driven pulley assy on the 700s are different than the 02 P650s. Mike "aka" newbeetle, are the 03 P650 the same as the P700? I never looked the 03 P650s up.

BTW, keep in mind,...Im sitting here with a broke heel. I have all the time in the world to do things like look up parts.

Smitty you should have only gone through about 1.5 belts so far. You either have a busted driven pulley bushing like newbeetle suggests or you have been disregarding the belt rules. You need to keep all of the rules to have the belt last a really long time. You need to keep most of them at least if you don't want to replace a lot of belts and pulleys.

1. Riding with a loose belt is by far the dumbest thing we can do to a CVT.
2. Riding slow in high is a needless cause of belt wear. Use low range whenever possible.
3. Neglecting to install the black spring is bad. The black spring mainly decreases belt wear (and slippage), but may also reduce the gear ratio slightly to help turn big tires. Get it from www.erlandsonperformance.com or get the dalton secondary (similar).
4. Riding a lot in really dust conditions, sucking in a lot of dust (it is proven that dust plays a huge factor on belt and pulley life). You may not be able to do anything about this. Try not to follow too close behind the dust cloud makers. Look for aftermarket filtration systems when they are available.
5. Big tires wear belts out faster. You may need big tires for mud, so make this is your only violation of this list.
6. Getting belt wet and trying to move forward while it slips ruins the belt (depends on how bad you do it). Get your thumb off the gas and get the machine to dry land. Rev the engine in neutral.

Default help please 650 belts

My P650 is pretty new with 120 miles and about 13 hours on it so far. I noticed a little belt slippage on two occasions following stream crossings. I assume that the belt got wet. I haven't removed the cover yet to see what's going on. Is the belt housing supposed to be absolutely waterproof? Any suggestions beyond the obvious, maybe problems that you've had or heard about relating to the keeping it sealed from water and mud intrusion?

Thanks

Mine never got water in until I was in water over front racks. It should be pretty much all sealed. If yours isn't, you might try RTV wherever needed.

I had to adjust my belt only after 80 miles. I was chirping on take off. Seems like the deflection was 31-32mm. If Im not mistaken I believe the deflection spec is 22-27mm. My belt obviously came loose from the factory. I had somewhere around 750-800 miles and had to perfom another belt adjustment. When I made the first adjustment I installed the EPI Black spring. Those roughly 700 miles were ran with stock tires too.

KOD... I'm not one of those guy's that spend any time pouring over the part numbers, & I guess I didn't consider ordering the 700 Prairie secondary, at the time it was still too new ( the '03 model secondary was back ordered for over a month, & they pulled one off a new, "crate" unit, so that I could do the module testing ) ( I don't have the "spare" time you do right now, to look up the part numbers anyway )... sorry KOD... I just had to throw that in there somewhere ... I hope you're healing well... Later ...WAM
