Default The P-650 seat

I have an 02 P-650 and I guess a soft butt. I find the seat a little uncomfortable and was wondering if anyone changed the foam or anything. I also feel it is a little wide and was wondering if anyone made theres a little slimmer? If you did how did you do it and is there anything I should look out for. I bought a new stapler and some 2" foam and was thinking of removing the cover. cutting 2" inchs off the top of the factory foam then putting the new slightly softer foam on. Then I was planning on thinning the seat about 1" to 2" in width. Do you think the cover will still fit or will it really screw it up??? Funny thing is I have no concern tearing the motor all down but I am concerned I am going to butcher my seat.... :-)
Thanks for the info
(Oh I am not real interested in adding gel due to the amount of cold weather riding we do here in Mi)

You might consult a upholstery shop. They may be able to get you on the right foam. It varies in density.
