Default 700 Prairie can'T decide 2wd or 4wd

Finally got the 700s back. The dealer couldn't get one of them to flash 2wd/4wd indicator lights on the instument panel but they did get the other one to do it. They said the wire going to the belt failure detection box were loose and they fixed it and reset the computer.
My buddy went to pick them up and they said that his hasn't done it again.
he took it up and down the road and it did it.
So right then "brain". I guess thats the computer.
He rode it a little bit and it hasn't done it.
BUT!!! They couldn't get mine to do it so they could find the problem. They said if it does do it again that they will come and get it and put a new brain in it.
They'er closed Monday so I'll be calling them tomarrow because it did it sunday mouring.

Well. Talked to the dealer (Star City Cycles of Lincoln, Nebraska), and told them my 4-wheeler started flashing 2wd/4wd again and he siad he would swap brains. Sure hope it fixes it.
Its just amazing that my buddy and I had the same problem. VIN numbers aren't close so they wouldn't have been made one after the other.
Whats even more amazing is that no one else on this forum has had or knows anyone that has had the same problem. Could we be the only 2 people with this problem in the whole country? the whole world? Wow! Kawasaki isn't doing to bad if their were only 2 out of 2000?

Default 700 Prairie can'T decide 2wd or 4wd

hey hardwood,
MY friend and I both bought new P700's and his blinks 2wd/4wd all of the time. he has 50 miles or so on his. I just read the owners manual and it says " Flashing 2wd/4wd indicator lights signal a manfunction of the Kawasaki Engine Brake control (KEBC) system or the selectable 2wd/4wd system. A flashing interval of .5 seconds indicates a malfunction with the 2wd/4wd actuator, a 1 second interval indicates the K-EBC atcuator is malfunctioning, and a 2 seconds interval if both actuators are malfunctioning." in either case, you have to take it to the shop.

Mine did it for about 15 seconds and it went away after I turned the bike off and re-started it. It doesn't seem to affect his 2wd or 4wd capabilities, it's just annoying. Anyone else had this problem???

One question, what's up with the delay in switching to 4wd and back to 2wd? Is it a timed delay or do the gears just have to mesh up? any tricks getting it into 4wd quickly?
Later guys

Sirmill
the dealer cheched both actuators and siad they were both good.
he wasn't sure this would work. i guess i'll find out this weekend.
my buddy's kept doing it before we took them in.he would reset it by disconnecting neg battery cable.
the last time it did it, it lunged forward after he came to a stop an released the brake. that when we took them in.
they told us the correct way to reset it:
with the ignition off unplug the brain, which is under the seat.it is the black box that is about 3 inch by 3 inch and has 1 big plug. just lift it straight up off of the 2 flat prongs then press down on the lock and pull it off. its pretty tight. then plug it back in and it should be reset.

Hey Hurl,
Good news i think.
My buddy and i took our 4-wheelers out with thier new brains and gave them hell.
the 2wd-4wd indicators never flashed.i guess we just had 2 bad cumputers.
how many hour do you have on your? We both had about 20 hours when they started.Like i said before, when it first started it took a while after we reset them for it to do it again and it would happen a little sooner the next time until it would do it real soon after it was reset.
Hopefuly they figure your out quicker than they did ours. maybe they have a kawasaki database that they record all of these problems.

Hardwood,
I unplugged my friends brain and it didn't work. (that sounds cool) 2wd/4wd is still flashing. Is this a problem that many people are having? Mine did it after about 20 miles but I turned it off and back on and it stopped. I guess my friend should take his in to the shop, huh?

I was told by my dealer that when they flash I need to count the seconds between flashes and that will tell you what is wrong with the atv , it is a self diagnostic system
