Oil Pumps on 650
#2
from what I know, there have been a few, but low numbers of problems with the oil pump, & most seemed to have been on "new" machines... perhaps there is something worn, that is causing the pump failure... if it is breaking/ cracking, it it probably getting viberation, thrust, or side stress that is not normal... I don't have my manual here with me, but I'd start looking for worn bushings or bearings that drive the pump... possibly a stuck pressure relief valve... but I'd suspect the bushings or bearings 1st....WAM

Hard objects in oil that get by the screen could hurt the pump like that.
Using 20w50 dino oil in cold weather might stress it a bit more. Like newbeatle said, the relief valve is the oil pumps best friend and life support.
What cracked? The rotor (center gear thingy), the outer ring thingy, the shaft, the housing?
what oil do you use?

I'm using the Kawi oil right now... but I was on the motul before both oils is good on mine point of view. "The rotor (center gear thingy)" broke on both sides. but I replaced the shaft last time to do some preventive maintance.
