Wear Shoe Replacement

Can you replace the wear shoes without removing the primary? I know you can change the spring without removing it, but what about the shoes?
Anybody had to replace their's?
Any tips would be appriciated

You could do it, but it looks tough. You have to remove the spider, and it is on really tight (and the crankshaft spins when you try to loosen). The spider is the cross shaped part that the shoes and rollers are in.
I would be tempted to buy the kawi tools for this. One could easily make the drive pulley wrench, and possibly use an impact gun on it to avoid trying to hold the crank still. The kawi tools would be so nice to have for this.
Alltoys uses 2 bolts in a vice with their heads ground to fit within the vanes of the pulley to hold it in place, and a bent steel bar to turn and loosen the spider. He has not said that he has busted anything doing this.
Good luck.

Nyroc,
You got me scared of it now.lol
Might just pull the primary and take it to a shop. I imagine the tools won't come cheap.
My problem is a knock coming from the primary. It is a constant knock and speeds up with the RPM’s. You can’t hear it when the engine noise increases. I assume it is the wear shoes. I checked the clearance and they are slightly out of tolerance. I took off the CVT cover and started the engine so I’m about 95% sure that it is in the primary. Have you heard of worn shoes causing a knock? I’d hate to pull it apart for nothing.
Thanks

If you pull the pulley, it is easier. Just use the alltoys method of taking the spider off. It isn't exactly a piece of cake, but alltoys says it isn't too hard to do.
You may need the bushing replaced too. You can save big bux if you find out what is wrong. The shop might rip you a new hole where the wallet was.
