K & N Filter question?
#1
I just purchased a K&N filter for my 700 and my mechanic at the dealership advised me against using it! He said while it was true it would flow more air, it was at the expense of proper filtration. He said it would allow very small dust to get into the engine and reduce the engine life!
I would like to hear comments on this topic!
Thanks!

OldDirtrider, a bunch of tests have been done that prove the K&N filter lets too many small particles pass. That is why people use a precharger with it, to help trap more small particles.
It is a poor choice, IMO, to buy an inadequate filter and then try to bandaid fix it with a foam outerwear.
These tests I refer too (I forgot who did them) are professionally done. This isn't just backyard mechanic oppinion.
In my own backyard oppinion, I personally just don't like the way some K&N filters do not seal properly (like the 2002 650 one). I like my twin air filter. Easy to clean, easy to oil. No problem.

I didn't like the fact that I had to lay a pretty rowdy bead of filter grease around the base of my K&N, it sure didn't seem true to me. Also how the heck are ya supposed to clean it really good??? Just my experience but I'm going back to foam.
