evened the score.......again

When my V was stock, I first raced a piped raptor that was apparently a little sick. I beat him easily on bottom and top end. I then raced another couple raptors and could beat them on bottom end, but they passed me on top. I then raced a heavily modded raptor and he beat me with a passenger behind him! I then raced his bud's heavily modded 400ex. He gave me the holeshot and still beat me. That's when I said "it's mod time". Since then I have installed Duncan duals and 160/165 jets+twin-air filter. I have removed the snorkel and propped open the airbox lid. I have also experimented with hpd plain and silver/gold primary spring. To get to the point, after these mods I dry-wiped the modded raptor. He started tweaking and has been broken down for several weeks. I was getting pretty bored without anyone to race, then his friend showed up today on the 400 ex. I had switched back to the stock spring and wasn't really ready to race, but since he initiated the challenge, I accepted. We hit it from a slow roll several times. Most of the time he got first punch and would jump slightly in front, then I would reel him in and pass. No better feeling than evening the score

I'm not sure if either spring will increase top speed, but they should get you to top speed more quickly. The plain and silver/gold springs definitely will get you off the line quicker, since they stall higher than the stock spring. Either way, the best way to launch full throttle on pavement is to lower the V. Not sure if you race on dirt or pavement, just thought I would throw that in. I wouldn't go too high on stall. I don't think this is very good for your clutch. I haven't had a good chance to get a "side by side" comparison against anyone with the springs. Click here if you decide to try......HPD

Note there are two plain springs listed. The one I have is PART # HPD6. The other is a stock polaris replacement. Don't get that

Hey cop, you must be having a hard time finding someone to race too, if you're wanting to come all the way to Ky. From what I hear the DS is pretty mean. I never see any around here. Have you gotten to race any stock or modded V's yet? How do you do against raptors?

I got to race a friend on his slightly modified Raptor this past weekend. He has gutted the stock pipe and installed a K&N filter. Its also lowered in the front to reduce the tendancy to wheelie. My only mod is a EPI pink spring. We ran on hard packed clay. Tow times and both times I pulled about 3-4 lengths on him. The second time I stayed in it for a good 200 yards to see if he would catch up but he let off because he was eating rocks and dirt. I was quite happy with the result. I sold my Raptor to get the V and he was kinda ragging on the V for being an auto. It gets a little more respect now.

I have raced the V. I was kind of disappointed with the V's performance though, It went real good to about 40 then kind of fell off like it hit a wall. When I rode it , it does feel reeeeaaal fast but the head to head test proved otherwise. If it was chain driven with a five or six speed I don't feel anything would be able to touch it. As for raptors, I eat them like chicken wings, BBQ'd and by the bucket. I have only really been beat by a fully modded Banshee and a thoroughly modded 01 DS 650. My top speed is 81.9 mph with a lot of room to go if I wasn't pinging off the rev limiter.
