Default Turned ignition on w/ CVT cover removed

I thought I'd pull the CVT cover off and examine it in preparation of black spring installation and shim removal, and before I disconected the KEBC I turned the ignition on to see what was happening when I hear that goofy noise it makes. I heard the KEBC motor whirr over and do it's thing, and diddn't think much of it. Shut down garage, and came into house to get online and order the new spring, then took a look at NYROC's belt reset switch tip. I see it is says to not turn ignition on w/ KEBC motor wires attached, or motor will spool out so you can't get cover back on! Anyone have any input on this? Haven't tried yet but makes sense.....One more thing, lately I've been noticing some clattering coming from the CVT area when I get up to , say 20MPH or so in low gear. It sounds like maybe a bearing grinding away maybe. I've seen the posts on noisy KEBC bearings, but the symptoms don't quite match....was going to grease things up a bit and hope it quiets down....Under warrenty, but dont want the dealer messing with my 650, (there a big Polaris dealer also).....any ideas?..Thanks guys....

I did the same thing and I had to do the belt reset procedure and reset the kebc it is pretty easy, you just have to take to wire connect it to the batteri + and - then find the 2 wire on the kebc engine that make it move and make it go back to is place close to the cover you can change the direction of the kebc engine by exchanging the + and - I pretty sure that I am correct I read this a year ago on nyroc website hope that help !

03twinbullet is right, find the red & Black wires on the KEBC wiring harnes & connect to a battery source until the *** rotates to it's farthes direction (closest to the cover) & then re-install the cover, real easy..

If the noise coming from your CVT area and sounds kind of like a winding up noise, it is probably your primary plate bearing, I had this happen to my 360 & I replaced the plate & works great now.. Easiest way to check is just take the cover off & check the bearing by turning it, if there is any hang up on it or in other words it does not turn COMPLETELY smooth then you'll get quite a bit of noise out of it..

Also has been a problem with the shoe's wearing out & causing a clattering noise when they wear out, but that's usually just at idle..

Cool. Gonna give it a try later this morning, after a few cups of coffee. Need to run to the hardware store and get the pieces for the NYROC spring compressor. How hard is it to get to get the KEBC bearing greased up? If ya pull the bolt in the driven does the bearing slide out? Gonna go heat up the garage, and get going on er'. Thanks guys!

Just got back from a test rip whith the tightened belt! Had the day off, and diddn't want to wait for the black spring, so I tore it apart for the first time to remove a shim, and kinda get the feel of being in there. I removed the thicker of the 2 shims found in there, the silver one. I believe it was .08mm. The biggest pain in the a$$ I had was the cheap set of snap ring pliers I had!! Kept busting tips, and the set my Honda riding neighbor brought over wouldn't spread wide enough. Hung it up last night, and went in this morning and bought a semi-decent pair at sears. Another frustration I had was the NYROC spring compressor would seem to slide off the top spring collar while under pressure. I ended up putting thin pieces of Oak wood from an old axe handle I had on 2 sides of the collar under NYROC tool. That gave me the stability to fully compress the spring to get the circlip back on. I cleaned up the sheaves with carb cleaner to get all my greasy fingerprints off, and cleaned and greased the secondary pulley shaft (which to my suprise, started to rust after only 2 1/2 months.) Put it back togather, and breathed a sigh of relief!
Fired it up and it was much quieter then before! I had some squeaking and clattering before , which was gone! Backed out of the garage, and could immediatly feel the difference. Way more responsive. Now I have no reservations about going into it again, which I'll have to do in a week or so when I get the black spring and a new belt. A BIG thank-You to NYROC for all the tech advice and confidince boosting help!!! Also echo my thanks to OLd Kaw for putting NYROC's info on ATVPOWER.COM for us!!
