For Kawi650---Instructions for temp. guage inst.
#1
The guage was bought at Princesse Auto. the sensor itself replaces the temp
sensor screwed at the base of the thermostat, next to the access of the rad cap.
You'll have to remove the front rack and plastic of the whole front to have access
to the thermostat. you'll seethe sensor screwed right off the side of it with a single
wire connected to it. Disconnect the wire, and secure the end with rubber tape or
something so it wont short with anything.
make sure the coolant is cold before , then remove the rad cap to releave any
pressure then replace cap. Unscerew sensor from thermostat and screw in guage
sensor ; dont forget to put teflon tape on threads before.
Run the wire anywhere up the stering column and secure it so it wont chafe
against anything that moves when you move the stering.
I the 12 V source from the power outlet off the side of the ferring. Use any
bolt that connects to the metal frame of the bike to connect your ground wire.
this power tap shuts off when you shut the key.
Mount the guage any where you feel comfortable with ; I mounted mine
on the windsheild fering so it's visible but not in the way. There's even a small
light inside the guage so you can read it in dark.
Keep in mind that you no longer will have the dummy light to tell you if
she's too hot ; only the guage. Don't loose the original sensor if you ever
want to use the dummy light approche again. You can't use both the light
and the guage off the same sensor. the light sensor is a switch ON or OFF.
The guage sensor is like a dimmer switch; GRADUAL FROM ON TO OFF.
Dont be suprised to see the coolant temp too rise to approx. 220 Farenheight
before the fan goes on automaticaly; thats normal. Thats why I use the by-pass
switch for the fan. It keeps the temp at arround 180 F.
Good Luck.
