Does anyone know where to purchase a "Vibrating Reed Tachometer"? The parks department uses these to set RPMs when doing the sound testing. I have a sound meter and am unable to find the rest to do my own sound testing. This would be helpful to help my friends and I avoid tickets and let me be more accurate inknowing when it's time to change the packing in my FMF Q.

Thank you, but I've already checked out that web site and the VRT I'm looking for costs around $26. The ones they have are $245 and up. Unless I missed something. The VRT I'm looking for is a little round disc with rpm on it and a wire sticking out. The wire vibrates a certain way when you reach the set rpm. The Park Ranger that tested my bike told me that I could get it at Radio Shack, but the R S's in my area have never heard of one. Also of note, I was at the Oregon Dunes when I was tested and running the DMC Alien wich tested out at 104db. The dunes have a 96db max. I had to get creative so I could keep riding for the weekend and when I got back to the Bay Area I ordered a FMF Q. I am currently running at 96db with this pipe and am guessing at the rpm. I also contacted the Motorcycle industry council and ordered the "Stationary Sound Test Manual" (free) but they couldn't tell me where to get the VRT.
Still on the search....

 

Why not just get a tach for your bike, then you also know your rpm's when riding?
