Default Just installed Elkas new front springs..

I just installed my new front springs on my 700 Prairie and have yet to preload them but I notice a funky twang sound when you push the front of the quad down. I hope this gose away when I preload them and if any one has had that sound let me know.
Thanks

I spoke to yann today about my front springs He said it's normal for the springs to do that till they break-in . Well I preloaded the springs only About 1/4 inch . They feel great but that twang is going to really bug me . I still have the nose off for other mod's and I may pull the springs a-part and fab some teflon washers to go between the spring. I guess my springs are the only ones with the twang...???

Still beating this death . Yann called me yesterday , I told him I still had the sound and I told him about the teflon and for me to let him know what happens . I found out tonight what the cause is . The coupling that joins the top and bottom spring under compression seams to **** and dig into the threads of the bottom adjuster . I catchs very quick and release and makes a twang . I could try some grease ,but when mud and dirt get in their is going to make a mess because that plastic coupling moves with every spring compression . The only thing I have come up with is to invert the springs and there will no friction but on full compression that couping may bottom out . I want to put this together once and have it done right .

Prairiewrench told me not long ago that the Elka springs originally came with week retainer clips that can break under extreme racing conditions (like the 12 hours of America race) and that Elka recently were trying out stronger clips. Do you know if you have the new and improved clips on your Elkas? I'm sorta waiting for Elka to start using the new (stronger) retainer clips on their springs before I buy some for my P650.

I have the elkas springs on my 03 P650 and the twang was there but only untill I put a few minutes on them. I have no preload. I love them. I have the short end of the spacer down.

Hi guys today I went out to my machine shop and turned out some new saddles for the elka's . Now I no longer use the factor Kawasaki plastic upper spring saddle I machined out a new on out of aluminum and the plastic coupling that elka supply with his kit went out the door , I made a new one that supports and both the upper and lower spring and in between all the springs a teflon washer's. I just put them together tonight , they seam smooth and silent , and they look cool and you can hose them out after mudding . I will post some pic's when I can .

Greg, I'd be interested in seeing these pieces if the stock ones were considered a weak point. Jan told me that I would have to lose the plastic spring cover. I have Outerwares on there now anyway.

Post some pics and let us know. I won't be installing my Elkas til after the new year.

I just posted pic's of the custom spring holders using elka's springs and teflon seats . I had the quad out yesterday with the front plastic off , with that front set up it is a great ride . The pic's as of today are still pending , I guess this site is a slow.
