Anyone installed aftermarket handlebars on V-Force 700?
#1
Has anyone installed an aftermarket handlebar (Renthal, Tag, ProTaper etc.....) on their V-Force and if so was it difficult/tricky. Only reason I ask is I would like to have a handlebar with a crossbar and crossbar pad but don't want it to be a big project. I know to keep the same bar diameter if I don't want to install new bar clamps on the steering stem but other than that it looks somewhat simple.......or am I incorrect??? Thanks.

I put some Renthal 400ex bend bars on mine. Easy install except the throttle assembly has a small nipple that goes into a hole on the underside of the stock bars. It is there to keep it from rotating on the bars. I had to drill a small hole in the Renthals to get it to fit correctly. I also relocated my key to my left fender just under the bars. The cross bar blocks the ignition key hole. Overall it was a easy install and the ergos feel much better to me. Not to mention it looks better. I will get some pics in my bio tomorrow.

Check out my pics for Renthals. It is so much nicer to ride with Renthals, although when I bend these ones, I'm going to try the Trailtech setup.

I installed the Trailtech X bars with the Aluminum billet dashboard. It looks great. I haven't ridden it yet with these new bars due to problems replacing my axle (read my other post if interested). The only problem I ran into was that cable for the rear brake lever is a little short when you raise the handlebars ( The trailtech clamp raises the bars about an inch or so). I had to modify the way the cable was routed (just moving some tie wraps basically) or the handlebars wouldn't turn all the way to the right. You have to drill a hole like MacV700 was talking about for the throttle and the DNR switch. Not a big deal at all though. The hardest part of the whole project was getting those darn grips installed. That was a byach.
