Default P700 Progressive front spring installation

Do you leave the plastic cover on the new springs or run them without? Will the spring retainer stay in the spring if I remove the plastic cover?

I left the plastic in to help protect the shocks from the grim. If i remember right the plastic looked like it helped retain the spring retainer.

How much do you suggest removing, if I may ask? I'm doing this mod tomorrow, and I'd love to get it right the first time. Thanks!

I have already cut mine - but am going to put them back on tonight. I cut approx 3" to allow good access to the adjuster. It did not look like the retainer was very seccure in the spring without the plastic, so I though I would ask becuase my coil spring compressor does not fit on with the plastic cover. I thought about leaving just a couple of inches at the top or cutting a slot to get the compressor through.

Yes you gotta keep the top part of the plastic or fabricate a replacement.

I had posted some topic's about elkas front springs . It was a mess , I was not happy with the spring holders he provided so I machine new couplings for the four springs but I all so machined new top cap spring holders using 3 1/4 6061 aluminum they turned out very nice . I posted pic's but my home page says pic's still pending. The only problem with cutting the plastic is now you strut shaft can be damaged and pitted by rocks and it will tear up your seal . Mine look cool with the springs exposed but I just ordered spring cover socks .
Just my 2 cents
