Default Prairie 400 speedo problem

My neighbor's 2000 P400 speedo is acting up. Below 12 mph it shows accurately, above that it begins to show speeds that are proportionally too slow. He went on a 60 mile run yesterday with his buddies; when they got back he only had 40 miles on the trip meter. Any ideas? And does anyone know where the speed sensor is for the speedometer? It's not shown on the buykawasaki site, not that I can find, anyway. Thanks

Anybody? Anyone have a service manual that could find the location of the sender?
