I had the same problem. Stupid stainless screws are too soft. I ended taking the core out and drilling the screws out then re-welded in new nuts. I replaced the stainless ones with more stainless that were covered with antisieze and after one ride they were frozen/stripped also.
Next time I'm gonna use regular screws loaded with antisieze.

Ya basically. Mine is held together by the clamp that clamps the muffler to the pipe. Once the clamp is loose you can tap the inner guts and packing out.
I have seen other applications that used a rivit or screw to hold the core in the muffler. If you have this type you must remove/drill out the rivit or screw.
