Round 4, March 20 & 21
Steel Creek GNCC
Location: Morganton, North Carolina
Located in the Steele Creek Campground, this track features plenty of creek crossings and mud bogs. But the hills really make this event. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Steele Creek may be the most scenic GNCC. And those mountains create some of the steepest and longest climbs on the tour, and the downhills are even steeper.
As the race goes on, a lot of tree roots become exposed. This makes for a rough ride when it’s dry, and a slick track when it rains.
The coolest part of the track is the creek crossing near the pits. The track weaves around next to a stream before eventually plunging into it. Then the riders have to duck their heads to get under a concrete bridge that the fans get to stand on and watch from.
It’s been pretty cold at Steel Creek the last few years, so prepare to dress warm.
