Thanks for all the advice and tips. I picked up my 2002 P650 with 69 miles on it yesterday. I am happy to report that it has a few more miles on it already and it runs like it stole something...FAST! Any suggestions on mods I should make right away?

If you are new to the sport,,,,,,I would get some body armor mods 1st off.

Then focus on learning how to operate it without killing yourself.

Mod it later (at least get your moneys worth out of the stock parts 1st)

If you still must buy something for it,,,,maybe a winch or skidplates.

welcome to the forum

I lived in Charlotte for 5 years. Where do you ride? Lots of NC people on here.

If its still running stock tires then I would say new tires are in order. It'll handle better and you'll have to worry less about getting flats. I put a twin air filter into mine and it made a pretty decent change. I think I was running a little rich before that and the filter took care of it. One last thing I would say is go for the EPI black spring. Its a great cheap mod. Congrats on the new purchase, hope you enjoy it.

My buddy that got me into this has 200 acres with trails up in Stanley, NC and another buddy has 500 acres with a mountain on it in Mt. Holly, NC. It's great to have friends! That's the only places so far, but we are planning a March trip to the park in Hickory and a May trip to Hatfield-McCoy.

I would say tires and front spring if it does not already have either/both, especially since you are new to the sport. There is a lot of engine performance in a p650 already.

What bing said. Don't try competing with your buddies yet, especially on anything over your head. Don't want to end up like ozzy osbourne - whoever watches out for him should have never let him get on that bike. I felt bad about ozzy getting all busted up.

Also ck the forum on maintenance. You might want to change oil since it hasn't been done in awhile.

Ck amsoil web site for after it's broken in.

Happy trails.
