Way back when there was suppose to be a factory directive to change the choke cable and springs for the 02 P650 with a newly designed one. Way back when a guy from a dealership confirmed that for me. I never got around to getting mine replaced. Now I had it in the local shop for some other work and asked them to replace the cable per the directive. The local shop says there was never a directive or a design change.

Can anyone help me find a copy of that directive or some other proof that it exists? I feel he honestly tried to find it. He replaced it with a new one but I think it is the same as the original 02 cable.

I asked my dealer the same thing.He even showed me the (book) that they keep all these things in.We went thru it and there was nothing in there about the cable/springs.I think you are right about them being the same.Thats why I just opted to replace the springs with the KLR springs.This solved my problem,You would not believe the difference in tension between the two springs.

Before all of this talk about the directive came out, I had a problem with the chokes and my mechanic replaced the springs with some Suzuki springs. The springs are better but I figured I would get the new Kawi. Springs and the longer better sealed cable while I had it in the shop. He said the one I just had replaced was full of rust and dirt.

 

this choke cable did it make it misfire like... hard to start

 

I also replaced mine with the KLR springs.
