Need Help.......cam change!
I had PBR cams professionally installed in my '02 P650. This quad has since become my wifes and I now have a P700. I WANT HER CAMS!!!!!
How difficult is it to change the cams? Would I need to replace all seals and gasket encountered with new ones?
Are any special tools needed?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I doesn't look hard to do at all, judging from my repair manual. I would suggest getting a repair manual (at least I am not goona type the procedure into the forum, maybe someone else will), and a set of web cams for your 700. Web cams are the same as PBR just less money (I think), that way you don't have to do double the work. Leave the cams in the wife's 650.
Yes, you gotta get new gaskets. The only thing that is technical about it is getting the cams timed right. The repair manual tells you exactly how to do it. So, if you follow instructions, use common sense, don't overtighten, and dont get dirt in your motor you should be able to do the same quality work as the professionals do.
Also, do not put cams in without porting the heads. Cams don't do all they can do for a Prairie or V without some port work.

i have the repair manual and judging by the book, it does seem pretty simple and straight forward. I just did not want to run into any unexpected suprises once I got started.
Your idea sounds good about the web cams, but with the extra money saved from exchanging with my wife I may be able to have the heads ported. This I know absolutely nothing about. Is this something most any machine shop could do and is there some type in measurement involved (like .????? thousanths or hundreths)?

I have never done it. You basically have to know and trust a good machinist to do it. Ask around the forum, ask mickey D. Ask PBR.
Basically it is a machinist who has done it so many times that he can look at your heads and make an improvement without compromising integrity of the head.
I have an engine machinist that I trust for all the work on my automotive stuff. You can tell he knows his stuff withing about 1 minute of talking to him. You should be able to find at least one good one per small city of 100-200k people.
All I do is diagnose problems, dissasemble, take the busted component to the machinist. I get my parts back reground, rebuilt, magnafluxed, with new bearings, or whatever. I put it back together and my engine is good to go.
the reason I say get new cams is that you would otherwise have to do 2 engines. That is double the work. Double the time. Double the gaskets. Plus, they are both down. Plus I think you have to send the old ones in as cores. I don't believe it is worth the time and effort to get the cams. Get new ones. Or, go to fourstroke tech and get the high compression 750cc kit with Mickey's special cams. That will blow the fenders off sport quads.
