Default 700 belt on the 650

Does the 700 belt do good on the 650, does it hurt the top end and would you buy a 650 belt or a 700 belt ?

700 is good, but I heard the 360 belt is actually better for top end because it is a little wider. I can tell you for a fact this is true. I gained about 3-5 mph on top end back when I bought the new belt.

Last summer I installed a P700 belt on my P650 and ran timed runs and top speed runs to see the difference. I reported the complete results on this forum and found that the belt added 1 mph to top speed in high range and 2 mph to top speed in low range. The acceleration at 100' and 300' were virtually unchanged by the P700 belt (as compared to stock P650 belt). I'm told by Kaw. customer service that the P700 belt is made of more durable material than the P650 belt...so the P700 belt should last longer. Therefore, I highly recommend the P700 belt over the P650 belt anyday. I've never tried the P360 belt, but I hear it is a little wider and a little longer than the P700/P650 belts.

Happy trails...

Thanks for the info. I called the dealer and they only had the 650 and the 700 belt so im going to get the 700 belt.
My belt has about a thousand miles and is worn below min specs. Cost on the belt was 76.00 and 73.00 at ronayers
plus shipping. You would think someone would sell and aftermarket belt for the prairies. dayco makes them for snowmobiles
and polaris.

I have kept the belt adjusted up since it was new. I ride really hard and a lot of fast take off's. All the shims are out except the thick thrust washer. I would say that the belt would be my fault for the way I ride. Here in WV there
is alot of steep long hills and eng brake works a lot. when going down steep hills, Sometimes the belt doesn't hold without some assistance from the brakes. I read in the manual that not using the brakes on a steep hill can cause acceleration in belt wear, which I do alot. I have also had to put on front brakes at 900 miles.

Are you running a secondary spring? That is supposed to be the best thing for extending belt life. I would recomend it for even a stock bike. Keeps the belt nice and tight, no slippage.
