300 Prairie 4X4 Advice
I recently purchased a 1999 Prairie 300 4X4 that only had 400 miles on it. The tires that are currently on it are probably the stock Dunlop tires and I was looking into upgrading them into something more durable and agressive. The tires that I am considering are ITP Mud Lites, but I am not sure if I should stay with the stock size of 25 inch or go with a larger size. The 300 Prairie is not loaded with extra power so I want to be cautious as to not bogging down the machine. Also, if I go with a larger tire, will I have to put a lift kit on? If anyone has any suggestions for modifications to this bike feel free to let me know about them. I am new to this forum and this atv. Thank you.

I have 26" Vampires on mine. They eat up a lot of power but you can go through some really muddy stuff. They are way better than the Dunlops. You won't need a lift kit but it would give you a lot of exta clearance. The only problem I've had with that is when I ride two people, every now and then the rear tires will scrub on the fender supports out back. My next tire will be something in the 589. A little lighter tire with a good lug

Thank you for your advice. Since I will be using this bike to haul corn to feeders and I will ride two people on occasion, I think that I will stay with 25" tires because I do plan on loading it down. The ground clearance seems pretty good for a 300 cc machine any how. Take care.

While I agree that if you are going to use it for farm work ( towing, etc ), you should stay with the 25" tires... you should switch to a heavier tire ( 4 or 6 ply ), & when you do this, get rid of the stock steel wheels, & put 12" aluminum wheels all the way around... if you put the aluminum rims on, the weight reduction will offset the heavier 4 or 6 ply tires, & you won't lose any power, & gain alot more reliability with the bigger ply tire...
our 2000 - 300 Prairie has been a very reliable machine... we plow out 1/4 mile driveway with it... only bad things, are the shifter, which IMO, is a pain in the a** to use, when compared to our 650 Prairie, & we fried out the whole wiring harness ( seemed like the short came from the headlight wiring ??? )... Ours has had some pretty hard use over the years, but still has the original belt in it...
