OK my 2001 piped mojave has great midrange power / torque. I am very satisfied w/ that for now. But I rode a 400 ex and a new trx450r yesterday- Conclusion? Mojave shocks are junk!!! The mojave truely ride like a farm truck compared to the other two I rode. The shock action is slow, not even close to as plush, and for something that bottoms out fairly easy is sure rides rough.

I have seen the works shocks in magazines - will they make a noticable difference? they are expensive, so it would be nice to hear from somebody who was used aftermarket shocks.
I have heard the 250r shock fits the rear, but what about the front? Anybody have any suggestions?

 

i have the 250r shock on the back of my mojave, the first time i rode with it i had the settings as soft as possible on the back, and the front was cranked all the way to the stiffest. let me tell you that was horrible, yesterday i went riding set the 250 shock about medium rebound, and brought my fronts down three clicks, and fine tuned from there. now it has a real nice ride, doesn`t beat you up, and i don`t bottom my exhaust on my tires any more. i hope this help.

 

BlasterBeater, I have the works shock with the reservoir on the rear of my mojave, It is a world of difference from my stock shock. I have the stock shocks still up front, someday, I'll change them out, but they're doing the job right now.

 

I have a works rear for a mojave with rez and a set of tripple rate works frts and also a set of dual rate works frts. All in good shape. send PM if interested.

What settings do you have your works shocks set at? I'm around 205 lbs. I've got double rates on the front and a rezzy on the back. I haven't adjusted them at all from the factory and don't notice a big differnce from stock.

 

Hey juniorsmojave, how's ya set the front shocks? I see supposed adjustment, but for the life of me, can't figure out how to accomplish it.

 

kwackerman, im not sure if you are asking what adjustment, or how to adjust, so i will answer both. first off to adjust, the cheasy spanner wrench they send with the jave is nothing but a knuckle buster, so i take a big pair of channel locks and a rag around the bottom of the collar. now when i first got the quad, still all three stock shocks, i started off on the softest settings and moved up from there. i ended up having all three at the stiffest to keep from bottoming out, but it rode like a farm tractor. after the 250r shock i just left the fronts at the stiffest but still rode hard. so i dropped the fronts down all the way to the softest and then up one click, no more bottoming and a much improved ride. hope this helps.

 

Steve55, I'm still playing with mine to get the right ride out of them. Over my stock one I can tell a big difference. They absorb the ruts,bumps and dips so much better. The handling was great. Now, when I replaced my old shock, it was worthless. So, I was impressed immediately. Oh yea, my weight is 190 lbs.
