Default How stiff should the rear shock be on a Prairie 400

How stiff should the rear shock be when 1 or 2 people sit on the Prairie 400. I put the shock on what Kawasaki says is the stiffest position, but it doesn't seem to have changed the tension at all from the original position. It came on position 2 and I put it on position 5. When two people sit on the atv it seems to go way down, but the shock still works. I went to the local dealer and sat on a 400 4X4 and the rear shock seemed much stiffer on the position 2 then on my position 5. I looked at my rear shock and nothing seems to be wrong, no leaks, not signs of wear? The atv only has 5 hours use on it, but has been sitting for a couple years, could this be a problem? Is it busted or am I just imagining that i can't feel the difference in tension? please let me know if you have any ideas?
