Exhaust header wrap ?
#2
Hey, another okie here....Im by Choctaw. About the header wrap, on cars, Ive heard it retains moisture so that it rusts the pipe. So if you ever get it wet, be sure to dry it off. Im not sure on any performance gains though, someone else will chime in about that Im sure.

89gt50Welcome to the forums. What im really looking for is the heat that comes off the pipe on the side of the v , i have heard is pretty intense. I just want to cool it down a bit. By the way ever think of joining an atv club if so pm me

You could always have the pipe jet-hot coated, not only will it keep a lot of the heat in the pipe and away from your legs and plastic, it will make the pipe last a lot longer.

Yea i would like to do that but i will get the pipes just in time for a big ride, and wont have the time to send them in for coating. What i really want to know is . Will it hurt anything buy doing this header wrap stuff ? There is a place in okc that does the coating for 45 $ on a new set of pipes.

I was told, when I asked about it for my Jeep headers, that the extra heat retained by the header wrap fatigued the metal, and caused the header pipe to blow out/crack. I do not know how this is different from Jet Hot, but I have not heard of this problem with Jet Hot. Try an internet search on the subject.....

In theory, it should have "some' performance gains, as the hotter exhaust gas will exit the pipes faster than the cooler exhaust... as far as metal fatigue, I would think thats an old "mechanic's wives tale"... however, the wrap will hold in moisture, & cause your pipes to rust out faster... even if you take precautions to run it for a few minutes, after washing, there will be times that it gets wet, & stays wet... High Lifter sells the wrap as part of thier heat fighter kit, & I've heard from several people that it reduces the engine compartment heat alot... It makes sense that wrapping the front pipe, will significantly reduce the air temp around the radiator... I will be wrapping ( at least ), my front pipe, before the summer riding season...

Wrap them up...less heat = more power how much? Well that depends on alot of variables I dont care to get into .............What pipes did you decide on..?
Good luck...
