What primary spring do you guys recommend for comp. pulling I have a red and black epi. I am looking at buying the dalton blue or ??? along with some new clutch weights from dalton, I will probably also go with the clutch cover as well. An of your alls insights would be much appreciated. It will be going on a p 700 with 26" 589s and soon as it is available the new cdi. Thanks

 

I'm running the red and black now, but I'm changing to Daltons when the pulling starts, give Dale a call.

if you pull alot, get some Duro's, wide ones front and back. take a grinder and cut the tread.

Here is a link to the duro's I was refering to, although the ones I had had more lugs, so I'm not positive these are the ones.

You take a grinder and sharpen the lugs, so it is sharp on front. the tires are light and digs well.

A word of caution, some pulling rules won't let you use "cut" tires in stock classes, so once you cut your commited.

SHOTGUN... have you tried any of the Polaris springs for pulling ??? I have the yellow right now ( havent gotten it installed yet ), & also been looking at both the brown & orange ... My V Force belt cover should be here soon, then I'll install the Dalton V Force primary cover... so I have a little playing to do with the clutches, yet ...

I've only done 1 pull so far, but had no trouble beating a set of Pit Bull 2's ( sorry DWB )... with a set of 22" TSL's... the TSL's are similar to the Vamps, but the lugs run sideways across the tire rather than angled more, like the Vamps... they also have shorter 5 /8" ( I think ), lugs... However I agree with SHOTGUN, in that it is logical that a bigger tire will generally pull better, because of a larger contact patch, & also, if your hitch is not adjustable, it raises the height of the hitch, with a taller tire... I like my 9" x 9" rear rims, as they flatten the tread out more than a 7" stock rim... however the wider the rim ( to a point ), the wider & flatter you tread will be ( increaseing you contact patch )... don't be suprised to see some of the radial tires do better than you'd expect, by looking at the tread style, because of the radials large contact patch...

 

I had a bunch of Polaris springs left from when I was pulling with Polaris, but sold or gave them all away.

I going to use the Dalton Blue, which engages at 200 abouve stock, so I can get out of the hole quick without digging a big hole on the start. (red EPI I'm using is 400-500 above stock). It is a higher load than the red at 1.25"(155)

On the secondary I going to use Dalton plain/purple, about the same as the epi Black but about 5 lbs heavier.

Dale is working on a new spring for the V, but should work good for pulling, keeping the r's up on the end.

The primary spring he's working on is the Orange/blue, 30/165,,,, it top secret so don't tell anyone. Get your order in early....lol
