Default wheel spacers?

My grandfather just bought an '02 220 bayou. It is brand new. It got lost in the shuffle at a dealership and never got sold. It reappeared at our local dealership and he got it at a real steal. He really likes it except for one thing, it is pretty narrow and doesn't seem that stabile. Would wheel spacers help widen the stance enough to make it feel a little safer? If so, what would be the max size he should get? He doesn't do any heavy utility work with it. Thanks.

Aftermarket 6-ply tires would also help alot.
