I think my primary clutch or bearings are shot!!!

On my 02 p650 I was changing the primary spring today on it and as soon as I took the main 19 mil bolt out the whole thing would just fall onto the floorboards. I did the same on my p700 and everything is tight as can be. Also when tighting the bolt after spring replacment the bearing or ? whatever it is that the kebc motor's fork ride against was loose you could turn it and push it back and forth!!! IF I tightened the 19 mil bolt really tight then it would bind up against the motor Still the bearing? was loose. So I backed it off and put it back toghter for now. What is going on. Why is it just falling once the 19 mil bolt is removed? Help Me Please!!!

I guess I'm unclear as to really what you are saying... the Primary clutch cover should be bolted on with 8 (?) i think 10mm bolts ( the piece that holds the KBEC bearing that you are talking about )... the KBEC bearings themselves go bad fairly often, & I've heard that they can be replaced, however Kawi only sells that cover with the bearing already pressed in & not the bearing it's self... if that aluminum cover just falls off with the center bolt removed, then something is definately wrong...

You can replace just the bearing....I did
Take the six? 6mm bolts out and remove the spider cover
clamp it in a vise........carefully!!!
drive out the bearing with a punch.....drive out the collar with punch
take the bearing to a bearing shop
they can cross ref the # on it
good luck

Yeah shotgun you got it when I take out the 19 mil center bolt (I don't ever touch the 8 10 mil bolts around the clutch cover) the entire clutch pullys everything pull away from the side of the engine. Makes it easy to take off the belt but I don't think it is supposed to do that is it? The bearing or washer that the kebc motors forks rides against/ the flat surface next to the head on the 19 mil bolt is loose it freely turns when everything is tight and it also is able to move back and forth. When I took the 700 aparts it was tight as it should be. My 650 also makes some sort of whining noise when you let off the gas going real slow or when it starts to move just before and during when the kebc motor does its thing? Don't knwo if they are related but the plastic ends on the kebc forks were a little worn???? Hope this clears up any muddy areas I may have left som other people any other suggestions?

I've never seen a primary loose enough to slide the whole thing off, with out at least some effort, after removing the bolt... but I'd say that if there is no "wobble", it is probably OK... but getting worn... that is a connection that doesn't normally show wear, as it typically doesn't move, except with the removal of the clutch...
the other noise is you KBEC... did you say that the KBEC bearing is loose in the 6-8 bolt primary cover ??? if that is the case, you'll need to replace that, as it should fit tightly in place, with only the part the forks touch, spinning... if that bearing is tight in the cover, you can try just replacing the fork, but more than likely the KBEC bearing is due as well...

Scott... I missed that, you are right... 650 & 700... look to see if the inside of the primary is cracked... it should not slide on the shaft far enough to come in contact with the motor, no matter how tight the bolt is...
