Lets talk Mud Lites on the P650
#1
I have 25" Mud lights on my 03 prairie, stock rims.
1. What would I gain other then clearance from 26-27"?
2. What would I lose? HP? MPH?
Opinions? Knowledge?

Yamihoo,
You should notice a loss of some power/acceleration if you go to bigger size Mudlites b/c of the weight differences.
Set of 4 (narrower front tires/wider rear tires)..........Approx Weight
25" ML................................................ ........................68 lbs
26" ML................................................ ........................97 lbs
27" ML................................................ ........................101 lbs
I got most of the above weights from http://www.itptires.com/mudlite.html NOTE: The 26" and larger ML has much larger size lugs which may partially explain the weight differences. Personally, I own the 25" ML and like them for all-around tires...have not had any flats (knock on wood) so far from punctures.

You must mean that 26" mudlites only come in two front tire sizes? Im running 10" wide 26" mudlites in the front and 12" wides in the back, on a P400. I lost about 5MPH on the guage which I gladly gave up for the steady 5MPH through the mudd! The lugs on the 26 are well worth the weight if you ride in mudd at all.
My accelleration didnt cut out that much, unless im turning the wheel, then its slower. You should notice even less having more power than me.

400Prairie,
Good catch! I didn't see the different size widths for 26" and 27" tires on the ITP website until after you called my attention to it...I edited my response above to account for that.

Just added 28in. Mudlites on C rim’s last week. They added lots more ground clearance. I did notice a drop in power but with all the mods they pull very well. The front wheels still come off the ground quite easy. The only bad thing I noticed is when you stick it in hole everyone is “scared” of you need a truck with a 9000 warn winch to get you out. Had 3 2500’s on it and didn’t move a bit. As you can tell from my list of mods I now have the new 4000 lbs warn. Got it today and had to do a little fab work to get it to fit in. Wire it up tomorrow, planning on getting a couple of Odyssey 925 drycell batteries mounted in a box on the back rack to handle all my power needs. The stock battery will come out and the wiring will be rerouted into a diamond plated box.

Great, thanks everyone! I guess I'll wear these out first and ponder.... I guess i wouldn't care about losing 5mph off top end for better clearance and less winch time...

As info.. I have 760 miles on 26" Mudlites on my Prairie 650. They still have a good 85% tread left. There is no doubt that they wear faster than a stock tire on asphalt though. Also, I only run 4 psi in them. It helps smooth out the ride a little. Overall, I am very happy with them and do not regret the purchase.
