crashed my prairie
Hello
This past weekend I crashed my 2003 kawasaki prairie 360. I was going about 25mph and got pulled off trail by some slush/water and caught a tree with my front left tire. At first I thought I busted a cv shaft so when i jumped off and looked I was quite suprised to see what had actually happened. Let me see if I can even explain what it is I broke. On the tire side of the cv shaft (not the xfer case side) there is a cast metal peice that the tire and everything attaches to. The suspension attaches to the top, the tire hub is held on here, and the cv shaft passes through it. This entire metal cast piece broke into two pieces, so now my tire is only attached by the cv shaft, and the lower joint of the bottom half of that casted metal piece. The strut is just freely moving around as the top half of the metal cast is still attached to it, but broken free from the rest.
Has anyone else seen this? What is the best thing for me to do? Contact kawi and get a replacement part i assume? What would I call the piece I need to replace?
Thanks in advance for any words of wizdom.
Kevin

It is definately past warranty. I probably should have bought the extended warranty, but i've had it for going on 2 years now and the warranty I had was for 6 mos. I plan on doing the work my self, i've done a lot of work on mine and my buddies prairies and it doesn't seem to be do bad of a job. I was just curious if anyone else has seen that happen. Seems like kind of an odd thing to break. I've busted a cv shaft on the other side and it took a much harder hit then this crash.

I feel warrent wouldn't cover this. I think the price is good... Chalk it to a bad weekend and replace the part. You might find that your steering might need a little attention as well... You can not fully tell until it's back together. Hopfully you didn't bend your strut or mounts.
