Try some timed runs to compare the original CDI to the new CDI in order to get a true picture. Most people are a little too enthusiastic in using their finely tuned "seat-of-of-the-pants" dyno, they tend to claim more gains than there really are. Maybe your "seat-of-of-the-pants" dyno is calibrated the opposite way. I also tend to go in the conservative direction.

I have heard that rejetting may be necessary with the new CDI...we all know what spot on jetting will do for a quad and how it performs...also heard that the performance gains have a correlation with mods ...for example increased air and better exhaust will see more of a performance gain with the CDI...now that is hearsay and dont know for fact ... but seems like it could make sense...few people that have opened up the p650s ability to breath (snorkle and air filter) along with better exhaust (aftermarket or NYROCs Mod) and seem to notice decent improvement from the Modules and CDI's

Well i hope there is some type of tweak you find here and you enjoy your new mod...i will be getting one shortly...believe i will get the CDI rather than DG module 3 or whatever it is called...anyone have any input here

I like the fact the dyna runs the engine cooler

Howdy,
I have been using the DG3 for 3 days now. I will give you my impressions of the power boost:

1. Starting is much easier. As soon as the engine fires the choke can be taken completely off and it will run fine.

2. Runs cooler. My fan comes on about 1/3 as much as it used to and it only runs briefly.

3. I am not sure but it feels like more low end punch than the Holeshot had.

4. Mid range can now spin the tires where I uset to steer with the throttle in twisty areas. Now it will spin out.

5. Have not tried the top speed yet but judging from the mid range pull, the top end should improve.

6. The power band is improved all throughout low and mid range. Not sure about top end.

Well, those are my impressions. Have a goodun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Install it on your '03 and see what happens. I am very curious. Let us know if its still side by side with it installed on yours.

Our bikes are the same model and set up the same....I tested mine yesterday and was not impressed either. Gained 1 mph and 3/10 of a second over 300'. Also got way up to a 1" wheelie.

I am going to follow nyroc's recommendation (to tommyboy?) and install a dg snorkle, twin air filter and '03 airbox. Ordered a dynojet kit for use after the mods. Hope the extra air and rejetting will make a bigger difference with the new cdi. Will keep you posted.

we have identical 650's mine is red his is green..both '03's ..and I'd also have to say that the snorkle is probably one of the best mods for the dollar possible..it really opens up the breathing of that motor..

You all are hitting on something that has been discussed for awhile. Everyone has been blaming the stock CDI as the limiting factor of the stock Prairie's performance, and it's really isn't the largest factor. The Prairie isn't setup to 'breath' well, hence the improvement with the snorkle/napa/exhaust/air filter/jetting/etc. As you increase your mods, the stock CDI becomes the limiting factor rather quickly.

Get a tach and you'll find out where you're machine is 'hitting the wall'. It is likely not the result of the CDI, stock or Dyna. Once you have it breathing free and jetted right, things start to open up.

Peace,
