test drove dayco belt put 10 miles on seems just as good as 100 dollar belt for 38.oo

 

Those grooves are for cooling. Less grooves=hotter belt.

However, if the materials are better, the belt still could be good. Time will tell.

 

Will that belt work on the V-Force? (hp2018) I have heard there is some difference between 650 and 700 belts. I have never compared them side by side.

 

If you are refering to the 04 P700 belt it is grooved on top. I noticed the top of the grooves were wider than the P650. Im not talking about belt width Im refering to width of the belt grooves running the length. Hope that makes sense.

I didnt need to but last week I replaced my P650 belt with my new P700 belt. While I had both belts off I took some measurements. I used the proper technique shown in the service manual and got 1.143" for my P650 belt and 1.200" for the P700. The shop manual states the P650 belt range to be 1.15~1.20". I know everyone has said the P700 belt is wider but I couldnt confirm that with my measurements.

Has anyone else who has installed a P700 belt checked the width before installation like the shop manual says to do? If so what was your measurements? Someone needs to take measurements of this new Dayco belt.

FYI my 02 P650 has 1247 miles and 152 hours on it. That was for belt replacement comparisons only.

 

just checked on price from ackland granger in alberta, hp 2018 is$ 45.54 cdn. they didn't have a catalogue but it was listed on order data bank. also asked for a catalogue to check out belt listing for 700

 

I had to dig this post back up because I just thought about something that changed my mind about the width of the P700 belt.

The P700 has to be wider than the P650 "atleast mine" because when my 02 P650 was new with no miles on it the belt wouldnt make any noise while in gear and sitting still. The other day when I installed my P700 belt I put the two spacers back in and now it squeals some. That proves to me that the P700 belt is wider than my original P650 belt was.

I posted this because I didnt want to mislead anyone with my post above.

Here's the scoop on Cogs, direct from Dayco:

I've been reading all the talk of the purpose of cogs and comparing the stock belt to the Dayco belt. So I decided to call Dayco direct and I spoke with an engineer asking him if they were going to make a top and bottom cog belt for the Prairie and he said no. Their new line "HPX" of sled belts are top and bottom cog, but we all know the "HP 2018" does not. Anyhoo, he told me the purpose of the cogs is to increase "transverse crush strength", NOT for cooling, or easier bending or unsprung weight decrease. From how he explained it, basically it reduces the belt from "squishing" if you can believe that. It makes sense to me, the ribs or "cogs" create more column strength width vs. just pure rubber. SO, he said on lower Horse power applications (like the ATVs) , the cogs are a minimal gain or concern. they were developed for higher horse power applications (100+ HP snowmobiles) But he did admit the factory design is better for longevity than theirs, but at twice the cost, I don't think its worth it. So I'm getting a Dayco since its wider and half the price of a kawi belt. He did not say who makes kawi's belt, he seemed to know but wouldn't tell me.
BTW, I got one for $29.95 in St. Paul MN.
