Ok, I had like 50 miles at the most on my 2000 bayou 220and the front brakes quit workin, so i took the thing in and had new pads put on and all thinkin that they were wore out because of all the mud i rode through. But when i got it back, i rode it 3 times, for less than 5 miles, no mud, and no water and the front brakes dont work agian, the brake handle was loose to start out with, so i tightened them up and it didnt help. Im really starting to get pissed abouit not being able to stop unless i stand on the foot brake. Are the brakes messed from the factory, or ddid the dealer do something wrong??????

 

With only 50 miles on a 2000 model ATV, I'd expect your machine to be in warranty. Replacing pads with mileage so low seems unrealistic. Sounds like your problem lies in the hydraulic system (I assume the front brakes are hydraulic disc type); for example, low fluid, air in the system, or blown master cylinder (unlikely both slave cylinders go out at the same time). You didn't say whether you could get the brakes to work by pumping the brake lever. I think you have an exercise for the dealer on you hands; warranty service. Good luck.

I agree with Tree Farmer, sounds like a problem with the system, not necessarily pads. It could be anything from air (not bled properly) to a hole in the line. Have you noticed if you're leaking brake fluid?

If the bike is under warranty, take it back, let them fool with it.

 

its not under warrenty anymore, the warrenty expired like a week before this happened and the dealer said brakes weren't covered anyway. But the system isnt hydrolic, and it has drum brakes that have been cleaned, its in the shop right now anyway getting a new wirring harness and they are supposed to look at the brakes too, so i dunno whats gonna happen yet

 

Hmmm, well if they are drum, perhaps they were out of adjustment? Once you got it back from the dealer, the first time, did you notice a lot of drag in the bike? Did it slow down very fast when you let off the throttle?

K here is what fixed the same problem i had with my 94 220's rear brakes... theres a cylinder type metal piece on the end of the brake cable some where along the line where it goes from the handle bars to the drums... it should fit in a similar sized spot....lots of gunky mud and jarring action did that to mine
