Anything under 300' they would be close, but still give the edge to the Pred stock for stock. Put in a 13 tooth sprocket on the Pred, then the gap get's bigger. Then put in a air box mod with a Pipe and CDI, the Pred is gone. If you put the duals on the V with the Proper clutching, it would be a close race again, but I would still give the edge to the Pred. But go over 300', I can't see the V winning no matter what it has for bolt on's. If someone does have a V that is set up perfect and knows how to launch it without flipping, they should win in a 300' drag, but I haven't seen any yet. All this comes into play when there is equal riders, but it will take a bit more experience to drag a Pred then a V. Then there's the cost. It will cost more to get the V faster then what it would take for the Pred, plus the Pred is $400 less to begin with.

I raced a pred. the other day on my V uphill probably near 500 ft. The predator could only pull fourth that's how steep it is. Anyway it was piped and I'm not sure what else but it was fast. I was running 22" sand star paddles and it had stock knobbies. My sand stars are good for a couple quad lenghts over stock tires. He was only a couple lenghts behind me every time! I'm guessing with equal traction he would have been beating me. I'm not stock and I'm faster then piped rappys and only a couple lenghts behind banshees at the top of the hill. I don't know his mods for sure but it would be close between the two. Probably come down to the better rider.

I may actually may be an expert on this question. My son is 17 and weighs abt. 145 and I am 40 and weigh 155, we both have 6-years experiance on sport atvs, he races and I am just dumb enough to try anything once. We both got new atv`s last july. He got the pred and I got the V. we raced stock and the pred won. We raced modified and the pred won. You can read my mods below, his are an HMF exhaust, air box kit, and from a stock jet of 140 to 175 now. The facts are on black top he can eat me alive, very hard to keep the V`s front end down for a good start. On gravel or dirt I can take him for a while till about maybe 50 mph then he blows by me. Bottom line the V has to spin off the line to do good in a drag race but spin to much. I am a pretty good tunner and have both running very good. A change in jetting from what is listed below is 150 rear and 147.5 front. This is what worked best for hot humid days, what is listed below was my winter setup. I love my V and would not change but the pred really kicks ***. Basically every thing GE4X4 said above is right on. Hope this helps.

No offense, but come on man, look at your mods! NO Dalton clutch kit? PINK SPRING!!! You got to be kidding! You might be a good tuner but only throwing in a pink spring onto a stock clutch is going to get you nothing but passed!
Truth be told that when you get your clutching right your son on his preddy will be behind you. WAY behind you.
My riding buddy has a piped preddy that used to eat my V alive. Since my clutch mods and pipes, He's not even close anymore. On a 500 foot drag, my V will pull about 3 legnths on him and by the end have pulled another legnth.
You guys are not going to get very far with that pink spring. The V's have so much more potential than you give them credit for.

If you have your clutching really dialed in, the V will pull just as hard on top as it does down low. If you don't, and probably 90% of V owners don't, you'll see a fall-off and you'll get passed. The auto should be an advantage in a drag, but it can be a disadvantage if you're shifting too soon or too late.

You are right about the spring but were we ride we have very tight woods, creeks, spoil banks, heavy ruts, etc. I need early, low RPM hookups. If I rode more open I would change. I did try the HPD plain spring but did not like it for my riding conditions. Would sell the plain spring for $20.00 including S&H.
