How old is the gas? Was it treated with a stabilizer? Old gas will have those symptoms.

 

It has nothing to do directly with the removal of the headlights! We have removed the lights from all our Prairies with no problems! Have you checked to make sure the choke is not stuck on,,,,, just a thought!

 

Gas is pretty fresh, about two weeks old. I'll check the choke and see if it stuck.

 

Choke seems fine, Funning thing, I put the choke on full and it reved up but it didnt seem smooth, but it did rev up! I wonder could I have shered the timming key. I need all the help I can get, Im one week away from the first drag of the year.

 

Have you had your airbox off lately? Don't know if it's the same setup on the V that it is on the 650, but if you have, there is that little black tube between the carbs that connects to the airbox. If you don't have that on properly, or if it kinked when you put on your airbox, it will run like crap. Just a thought.

Well I tryed it and it rev up, a little eratic but it did rev up. I pulled both carb bowls and checked all commponents (jets,needles,air jets ect...) pulled the fuel pump it looked clean. Its just wierd, I put the choke on and at idel it started to run rough but it would rev up rough also, but it reved with out cutting out. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! so fustrated!!!!

 

I assume you did l,ook at the jets ??? I had a piece of plastic, from the original machining of the gas tank, that had some how gotten past the O.E. filter, & through the fuel pump, & had cork screwed it's way into one of my jets, last year... it happen the night before one of my mud races, & I did'nt figure it out, until after the race... mine would run best with the choke on about 1/2 way... I've now installed a see through in line filter, just before the carbs...

there is also a fuel pressure regulator, on the pump, that I have heard a few instances of it failing, & the symtoms are similar to yours... if you are running too rich, that could be the problem, it may also be the problem, if you are not getting enough gas... if this is the case, it could also be the filter in the tank, before the fuel pump...

also, if your gas tank is not venting properly, it may cause excessive vacuume to build up in the tank, making the pump work harder... if this is the case, it would run normal, with the gas cap removed...

hope this helps, nothing worse than trying to make an event, but having mechanical problems...

 

Ive checked the Jets for debree and saw nothing, blew threw out,(tasty) and they seemed fine. I'll try the gas cap.
