Pulled my Headlights and it runs like #@#@!
#1
It could be a fluke, but I ran it a week ago and it ran great. Noticed it had a bent axle so the machine sat for a week, while I waited for parts. while it sat in my garage, I pulled the head lights out. I was planing on ride with a bunch of friends at our track and did not want to get a light busted. So I took it out yesterday and It would not rev past mid throttal. Since the lights are out, am I getting to much air flow? I checked the air filter and its clean, gas is good, and plugs are black. My air screws are three turns out also. I'll replace the plugs tommorro do you think this is my problem (plug) or is it to much air? any ideas?

Yeah, you need to check with a new plug. Black usually indicates a rich condition (too much fuel)
I'm going to presume that your air intake is behind the headlights somewhere, and by removing them you have given an easier path for air into the system (sorta like a ram air system).
Get a new plug and check it out .. if it turns out to be still black, then there may be some other problem. Just my suggestions anyway .. there's many more people here with much much much more experience than me .. good luck!!

on a lot of bikes the electrical systems are all intertwined..is it possible that removing the headlights affected your elec system?..just a thought..and if it sat..could it have goten moisture in the fuel?..just taking a stab at some ideas..

Could you have blocked the intake snorkle when you put it back together? This has happened to people with P650s. The intake snorkle was not pushed up through the rubber flap, by the handle bar stem. Check your intake snorkle routing. I don't know how a V-force is laid out.

I had removed my headlights, before my rebuild, with no poor running, so it should not be directly related to the lights being unhooked... the guy's suggesting the rubber deflector, could be correct, also look at your coils, they are mounted on the frame just behind the front fenders, just to make sure that you didn't knock off a wire ( easy to do... I know from expirience )

Well, I checked the following and it still runs like crap.
New plugs- runs like crap after mid throttal.
New plugs and lights back in- runs like crap.
New plugs and lights back in and airfilter removed (to check the carbs to see if they are opening) , check spark plug wires, Still runs like crap.
Im going to pull the float bowls off and check to see if the mains have not fallen off, I'll do this tonight. tonight.

Well the mains are fine, so I checked the plugs, and they are both black (new plugs). I Added some gas line deicer to the fuel tank and I'll check the quad tommorro and see if it runs. I don't get it, the mains are the same I had in it last year, the only thing that has changed is the air screws, that are turn out three turns each. It ideals fine and runs smooth up to mid throattal, then it runs rough.

Make sure both of your slides are opening up ride with air cleaner off to watch. I know if the carb diaphrams are not sealed corectly you wont even hit top mid or top end. John A

I guess I'll have to pull the airbox off and check the carb slides and make sure they are sealed good. I went threw and checked alot of the electical connection to see if there is any signs of water. The fuel looks good, no signs of water in there.
