How many hours should I wait before I start using synthetics in my new twin peaks. It is getting it's first ten hour service this weekend and was wondering if that was to early to start using synthetic. Along the same lines, I read that most people are using 10W40 oil, is that what I should aim for as well. Lastly, I guess I'm looking for some advice on which oil and weight to choose whether it be synthetic or regular.

Thanks ALL!

I changed over around 150 mlies/10 hours~ish Changing both Oil and filter. Im running Amsoil 0w40 4-stroke synthetic. This is the first vehicle Ive used the Amsoil product with and it seems to be good stuff! Even if it is one of them MLM companys!~LOL(Multi Level Marketin) Nobody has tried to shake me down to sell soap or vitamins yet!~LOL. I just went online and set up the Preferred Customer Dealer deal I think its 20 bucks? And you get a good discount and there newsletter. I order by the case and they had some other misc. stuff like Oil filters, Air Filter Oil etc. I bought. I dont know about you but some stuff like Oil and Lubes I buy in bulk and there price seems to be very fair. I would recomend them! Im far from being an expert! whatever you use its just very important to change that oil. I try to change every 400 miles or less! and clean and re-oil my air filter after every few rides just keepin it Clean!! ... ~coop

I waited until 500 miles and put Redline 10w-40 in my P700......This is the only oil I have ever run that i can tell an honest difference in the way the bike sounds, run's, and such.........

I also run Amsoil 0W-40 full Synthetic and it seems like good stuff. I am not sure how many hrs were on my bike before I switched from the dino stuff. I wouldn't worry too much about switching, I asked a couple of mechanics and they agreed it was ok to switch. Polaris comes stock with Synthetic from the factory. I broke mine in very well, before I switched to Synthetic, but I don't think it really matters. Todays motors have very close tolerances and I personally don't think you have to worry as much about "seating the rings" as you used to.

I had my dealer put synthetic Polaris 0W-40 in when he did the last full service before putting mine to bed for the winter. I have put about 300 miles on the Polaris oil with no apparent problems. Runs cooler. Going to put synthetic Amsoil 0W-40 in next week. The synthetic oil has been around since WWII when the krauts went with it because they were out of petro oil. Has a long history, and I have never heard anything bad resulting from its use.

I did the same thing as Marylandatv....got the preferred price and put amsoil in all my vehicles. Plan on putting amsoil transmission oil in everything this summer.

Royal Purple is another good synthetic. We're testing it on our fleet now and have had good results. In the testing we did, the best appears to be Royal Purple followed by Amsoil. I was a little surprised that Mobil 1 was at the bottom of the results. I'm changing the Mobil 1 out of my P766 and going to the Royal Purple.

Peace,

mobil 1 at the bottom? - i find that very hard to believe. I worked in the plant that made the stuff, and our lab testing and real world analysis was unbelievable. Im not saying its the best stuff on the face of the earth but i would be curious to see what exactly you were looking at when testing the oil.......

I run Amsoil 0w-40 also I hear nothing but good things about it. My friend runs the two stroke oil in his sled and said that some how the head bolts worked loose and the anti freeze pumped out the engine,it got so hot that it melted the piston to the rings and said it was the Amsoil oil that saved the cyl. walls. He had this happen before with other sleds and oils and it always scared the cylinder. I switch over to synthetics at 1000mi. and now run 20w-50 mobel 1 V-twin in my front diff. that Nyroc runs in his and it made it steer easyer.

I run Amsoil 0w40 in my Prairie 650 and the Amsoil SMF-03 oil filter, which catches much finer particles than the stock filter. This oil also seems to be doing very well in my v-twin lawn tractor.
