Initial feedback on FST 765 w/ Dyna
#1
I had the opportunity to run the Prairie this weekend, as well as watch a friend on it, and in a word it is awesome. Low gear is useless now. The combination of the FST Cams plus porting and the Dyna CDI have the motor spooling up faster than ever. Blips of the throttle launch you to 30 - 40 mph in flash. If you don't have you're act together when you give it a shot, you're going to crash into something. My tires are not up to the power and quickness anymore - nor are the brakes. The tires make the unit almost uncontrolable under a hard launch and the brakes are frustrated by the tires.
Just for perspective - I live in a typical residential development and on the blacktop I run from two houses down up to my house and go from 0 to 42 to 0. It has to be pointed exactly where you want to end up, or you're going to crash.
Watching my buddy ride it - he is an accomplished rider which is the only reason he's "allowed" to ride it - is really awesome to see and hear. The sound is like a dragster and you can feel the concussion of it coming out of my PBR Big Gun. At a small 1ft high "bump", he blipped the throttle and was completely airborne.
In neutral, a hit on the throttle makes it jump up. I'll post some videos of it just so you believe me ;-)
My only issue is that I'm having the starter kickback with the Dyna. With the high compression, it's pretty severe. The bike is also a bit harder to start. It needs some choke and gas to get it to turn over.
I'll get some videos on my site in the next week or two for those interested to check out.
Peace,

Upload those videos! I'm sure everybody would love to see you tar it up!~lol. It definitely Sounds like an old toy is born again and Transformed! Once you work out the bugs, July 10th we will have a good ride going on in your neck of the woods. Maybe we can get you and Wildwill together for some drag racing?-lol What tires and rims are you thinking of? I didn't like the 12/7 off set all around on the c-wheels and they may not be ideal for your setup? I'm not 100% sure how much dirferance it makes? But the 12/6-12/8, I now have with my OMF beadlocks seem to feel much better for fast riding. And of course I just think the Big Horns are the best. I also just picked up a set of the bias ply horns and know where they can be found if your interested? ~coop

I'm running 26" Mudlites, but I think 25" Bighorns would be a better choice. The Mudlites were great before the FST and Dyna, but they don't have the stiffness to deal with the power.
I think my rear brakes are shot. The wife was driving around with the rear brake on for about 5 min (before the FST that is). I'm going to try to adjust them and see where I end up.
I'll PM you about the tires.

MARYLAND... FYI, I think the new "C" series type 5's & 6's, are offset differently, fronts to rears, than the type 3's... I'll need to measure them this week, when I mount my 28" zilla's ( on type 6's ), for the mud race this weekend...
ROCK... I think you'll find that a radial tire is definately in order, you'll need the extra traction they afford... the ATR's, & the Carlysle Bad Lands with ( 11" wide rears ), & the Goodyear MTR's 26" on beadlocks, have worked particularly well for me, with the added horsepower... the little Duro's, have also been an awesome performer, on the asphalt drag strip...
I'm also considering a set of custom 13" aluminum wheels, with 13" performance automotive tires... seems like I have more power, than most "normal" ATV tires can handle... my 12" X 12" wheels from this company should be here today ( I hope )... I can't wait to mount them to my pulling tires, & finally hook up to a sled, again...
I definately needed the wheelie bar, for asphalt, & hard pack ... there is a pic of my ashalt set up, in my bio...

SHOTGUN... you just would not believe how well it works... no bracing required... however, I don't think it would work at all, on a stock rear suspension...I had the springs off of the extra Fox shocks, & as the rear suspension compressed, it changed the angle, & would raise the wheelie bar, on the business end...so in use, the wheelie bar would use the leverage of its length to compress the rear suspension, & it would only add slight resistance to the front end coming up... with the springs added to the extra shocks, & the preloads dialed up, it adds just the right amount of tension, to keep the rear end from unloading... although it does ride pretty rough like that ( off road )... the wheelie bar is adjustable for use on several surfaces, & converts to a single caster ( 3" X 4" ), for dirt / grass drags, or a single caster ( 7" X 5" ), for sand drags...
Did you ever order the 12" X 12" aluminum wheels from "Real wheels" ??? mine should be here today, latest, tommorow, after a 7 week lead time... but at 7.2 lbs each, in that size, the aught to perform...

No I haven't ordered yet, waiting to get the 850 running, to see how it acts with the wheels I now have.
That wheelie bar looks like it'll work well. I going to try to lengthen my swingarm.
