Default Transmission Gears Mod for P650/P700

Ok, I did a little checking on the P/Ns for the P650 (I'll assume the P700 are identical for purposes of this post) and also for the V-force.

Here's what I found:

PRAIRIE (geared lower?)
P650/P700 Input Gear (high) has 26 teeth (26T)
P650/P700 Driven Gear (high) has 30 teeth (30T)
P650/P700 Output Gear (high) has 18 teeth (18T)

V-FORCE (geared higher?)
V-Force Input Gear has 27 teeth (27T)
V-Force Driven Gear has 29 teeth (29T)
V-Force Output Gear has 20 teeth (20T)

P650/P700 and the V-force use the **SAME** Output Shaft (13107-1436) and **SAME** Input Shaft (13127-1304).

So it stands to reason that PERHAPS its possible to replace the stock P650/P700 Driven (30T) and Output (18T) gears with the V-force's Driven (29T) and Output (20T) gears. If this is possible, do you HAVE to change out the Input Gear to match the change in the Output/Driven gear changes???

So what do you guys think of this idea? Will it work and if so, will it increase top-speed at the cost of low-end torque or will it do the opposite?

PS - I do realize that the tire size differences between the V-Force and the Prairie make a big difference in gearing, but I was curious if this mod idea would be a more effective way to alter the gearing.

Happy trails...

What will happen when you put it in 4wd?? You may have a problem then. Wouldn't your front tires spin slower than your rear?

BADBOY... not if it's done in the transmission ( not the rear end )... MIKEY... this is good research, now a few questions... the Prairie has low range in the transmission, the V Force does not... I wonder if the gears are interchangable, or if they V Force gears are thicker, & the Prairie gears thinner, to allow more space for the low range... also with the V Force shifting on the handle bar, the shifters are different, but I wonder if the differences extend to the transmissions as well ??? It is very interesting, that they use the same input & output shafts... if they vare the same thickness, & the housing is not different enough to limit the size of the gear by 1-2 teeth, this may be a viable solution for another few mph...

So let me make sure I'm not off-base here:

You guys are considering whether or not to split your engine case to change the final gear ratio. Unless you were planning to tear it down for a big bore kit, I wouldn't see the benefit over changing tire sizes.

Whoops...I hadn't even thought of how to access the gears! I just hoped that there was some way to gain access without splitting the engine case. If there is no other access, then I'd have to agree with n2xlr8n...its not worth the trouble unless you are doing a big bore kit or major engine tear down.

Its a big job to split the cases for a gear change, it's cheaper to go with the bigger tires to change your ratio as n2xlr8n says.

quiz for the day, my pulling tires are 31" tall, stock were 25" high, when my speedo says 70MPH, how fast am I going??

Zmann,
I just checked the P/Ns for the rear diff gears and discovered that both the Prairie and the V-Force have the same number of teeth on the rear end gears...the "drive shaft gear" has 8 teeth (8T) and the "Comp Gear" on the rear axle has 35 teeth (35T). Because the number of teeth are identical, I don't think there is anything to be gained by putting V-force rear end gears into a Prairie.

***NOTE: Even though they have the same # of teeth, the Prairie and V-force actually have DIFFERENT P/N's for its rear end gears.

Shotgun,
Assuming your speedo was accurate with stock size tires, you should be going 86.8 mph. Am I right?

PS - Is that really how fast you can go with the 850cc kit installed?

I was talking about aftermarket ratios kind of like what is out there for cars etc.
Thanks for looking. I wonder what the ratio is stock in both? 3.73, 4.10?
