The dealership I go to was beating the 'chinese are buying up all our scrap metal' drum last week....also 30% increase in oil import over last year....that the cost of all vehicles are going up.
I don't doubt there is some truth to that, as our heavy industry has gone south (east). Coming from an oil field and basic steel mill heavy industry background.... a nation of Wendy's and Gap stores...ugh. Off topic I know, but it's sad to see it happen just during my lifetime.
I think my 650 will continue to be my pal for a while.

That is according to the article on the home page. They (kawasaki) must be smoking the same crack pipe that Honda smokes.

Raw materials are definetely(spelling?) up in cost. The Prairie is made here in the US, right? If that's true, that's where some of the price comes in. Wait till next year, you can have that same '05 Brute for around $6000

Being in the steel industry, I can tell you that the price of metal has gone up significantly in the last few months. When we do a quote at work, the price is good for one week only as the market can rise dramatically in just a couple days. A sheet of flow forge usually sells for around $325 Canadian. The last time we got a price, it was about $600. I can see the price of everything jumping in the next while as all the suppliers are going to be upping there gas surtax. It sucks, but that's the way it is.

If it had EFI, and you ordered a camo one, I bet it would be over $8000. That's getting up in Rhino (Yamaha) territory. Now if Kawasaki had made their own version of the Rhino based on the Brute Force drivetrain, I wouldn't mind shelling out some major $'s for that.

At $7199 msrp you gotta admit that the Suzuki 700 is looking a little better right now....I'm no traitor but, the King is alot of bike for the money, probably wont be hardly as fast as the Brute but will be as fast or faster than the current P700 and ride like a Cadillac
