Brute Force belt deflection
#1
How many miles do you have on your machine? have you had to adjust your belt deflection yet, if so at how many miles? Does any one know if BF has the same CVT as the P700 or did they beef it up to handle the extra power? What are some opinions on who has a better CVT system Kawasaki, Yamaha, or Suzuki?
I had some trouble with my 02 P650 CVT so I am just looking for some input, because I am thinking about getting a new BF.

The Yamaha and Suzuki both have way better belt systems , I have never but a belt on a yamaha and just got to the Suzuki forum and you will not find and complaints on there belt drive , that is my only grip with my Kawaski , they have parts that are designed to wear out. The Yamaha and Suzuki bot have constant tension belts with clutches , no comparison , that is MUCH better ,I still think it is stupid to pay all this money on an ATV and have to set belt deflection and change belts , I don't have many problems with my belt on my Kawasaki but I have never had a problem with the Yamahas we have owned , but let me also say that the motor and brakes make up for the poor belt drive design. All you have to do is search on belt and you will be reading for days.

I agree 100% with Jeffro. The only thing the Kawi design is better for is tuneability. I would rather have a belt design that had better engine braking and less maintenance. But, I dont mind making the belt adjustments but I do wish I had the downhill engine braking my old Kodiak had.

KOD the engine braking in the 700 is much better than what you have on the 650! I noticed a huge differernce. I'm also not going to complain about putting 5000km (280hrs) on one belt to find it's only half gone! So I would say the Kawi clutch has been improved quite a bit but there's room for improvements in the clutch. Is the BF clutch more beefier than a 700 clutch?

Thanks to all for the replies. After putting the Dalton springs in my P650 my engine breaking is great, seems even better than my friends Griz. I don't mind adjusting belt deflection now that I have learned how, but mine wore grooves in the shives and had to be replaced. Thats when I put the 700 stuff on. When should you adjust the deflection after putting a new belt on? And I would like to hear from some BF owners if they have had to do this yet and at how many miles. Kinda makes me want to wait for the new v-twin Yamaha, but I have my P650 sold and I need a new wheeler before the end of august, and the King Quad is only a single!

Kawi650, the P700 has a lot better components than the 02 P650. I wish mine was like that. If anything ever wears out I will replace it with the P700 parts.

WTF is this about suzuki having a better belt/clutch design over kawasaki....
I thought the TwinPeaks and the Prarie700 were IDENTICAL except for plastics and slight bumper differences????????
