I didn't do a top speed run before I started, but I did get it up to around 62, before I did the mods. It had more room to run, I just didn't want to pim the throttle open for so long when it was new.

Here is a little history on my atv. When completely stock I could get 68 downhill and roughly 65 flat. Now I get 68 anywhere and 69 for sure with the CDI. When stock I could get around 46-47 in 350" Now I get 48 everytime and sometimes 49. I admit my tires could be slowing me down maybe atleast 1mph.

When guys say they gain 3-4 mph by doing something non enternal I wonder about their honesty sometimes. I know for a fact what it takes to gain 2 or 3 mph an its a lot. Im speaking for my P650. Someone else may have a crappy running P650 from the start and tune it a few ways and make it run but in this case the atv wasnt running right to start with.

BTW, Im not refering to anyone specific with this post. Just wanted everyone to know that.

Went out again today. left the 26 in mudlites on with O/B primary in 4WD ran 300' 6 more times. Didnt have my brother there to time me but 300' speeds on the speedo were in order as follows: 51, 50, 49, 50, 51, 50. So I would say 50 is pretty much it. From sign to sign with the yardage pro 500 laser range finder is excactly 100 yards. If math is correct this is 300'. I know speedos are not always acurate but I would think with the 26s instead of the 25s its calibrated for it would be on the low side if anything. Forgot my impact so didnt feel like changing tires to play with top speed again. Mudlites dont feel right past 60mph (kinda shakes). Although I think if I put tire pressure at 6 or 7 pounds (stock tires) in all 4 tires I can get that 70MPH. When tested it had 4 in front and 5 in rear. Scully the Dynatech will put a smile on your face. Deerchopper, It will get to 64 before to long but the last few mph is spread out over about another 3/4 of a mile.

KOD, You are in better shape than me on top. Without the CDI I am at 66mph. with mudlites Im at 64. (some is due 26s not calibrated). I would be willing to bet if you are at 68 mph with your tires and no cdi you will most definatly break 70mph. The CDI had a constant gain on top of 3mph on flat ground. Over the holeshot I didnt notice any improvement on low end. and not much in mid range, but one thing I couldnt deny is the cdi helped top end. I switched back and fourth probably a dozen times since I got it and that never changed. Also make sure you give it enough time (like almost a mile) it takes about 1/4 to get to presumed top then another 3/4 to squeeze that last couple. The last place I tried top speed was only about half mile and it wasnt enough.

Good posts. I wonder if the 700 is a little better on top with same mods. Sounds like the dalton spring is the way to go.

Good work Rivermud .

I am suprised you didn't lose a bit in top speed with orange blue . When we test on radar we do .

Have you ran a majic marker over the clutch sheeves to see if you are shifting out fully ? I have noticed with stiffer secondary springs that sometimes the clutch can't fully shift out . If it is fully shifted out you are doing great .

Thanks for a good post .

Rick

Rick, That was very surprising to me as well. I have not tried the marker on sheaves yet, but I will next time I have it apart. Im thinking about giving you a call about some head work. Will it be worth while to have the heads done without a big bore kit? Maybe a cam? If it helps the top will it hurt the bottom?
