Default Primary spring top end results...

The springs tested were the Stock, Plain white, and the Orange blue. They were all tested for top end within 15 minutes of each other (thanks to air tools). New 700 belt with 21-22mm deflection with black secondary spring. Barely audible squeel at Idle. Top speed was tested with stock wheels and tires by the speedo. Stock Speedo may or may not be correct but for comparison purposes it should work fine. Results were a little surprising to me. Stock spring took the longest to get to top speed at 68 mph. Plain white was better getting to speed and didnt loose any at 68 mph. The surprising spring was the Orange blue. This spring was great for me. The low and mid range was much stronger than the other two but the top end actually gained at 69 mph. I sure thought since the spring pulled so well on bottom it would loose a bit on top. I tried to do 300' timed test as well but the stock tires would make it impossible with the wheelie factor. When I was finished I did the 300' 3 times with the orange blue spring and mudlites. (less wheelies) The times were 5.75 @50mph 5.83@50mph 5.72 @ 52mph done on pavement, in 4wd, 300 ft measured by laser range finder. I realize this means nothing to you guys if I didnt do the other two springs but when the shims I ordered come in I may expand the test and run another spring or two. For a broader range of springs KOD has a really good post on several, they are right on the money as to feel of the spring, I just wodered if the top suffered and with the O/B and my setup it didnt.

Thanks for the test. I didnt think you would see much if any difference in top end speed with the springs. The main difference is down low in the first 200-250' I think. If you are hitting 50mph in 300' thats pretty fast. You are beyond a stock P700 then. Im comparing my results to the stock P700 at 350'.

With my mods I only get 48-49 at 350' much less 300'. I just put the proto type Dyna cdi on Friday and havent had a chance to test it yet. I must have a slow P650, everyone seems to be faster LOL.

Actually I think I will be slower when I rejet because right now Im dangerously lean, Good for speed but bad for engine. Running 93 octane. And 5' 7" 160lbs helps a little also Im sure. A guy I work with says he lost 1mph with the black secondary and another 2 MPH with the blue primary. Then gained back 2mph with the P/W. However I cant vouch for him because I wasnt there.

kod and scully im in the same boat.

ive hit a top speed of 64mph, now with the heavy bighorns ive lost 2 mph. i just cant see hitting 70 mph with mine, it just cant do it with out internal mods. we will just have to be blockers for the 65+ prairie's. they need help to from the sport quads.

I feel sorry for you guys that can ONLY go 65! Thats plenty fast on a utility. I like my top speed, but the thrill for me is how fast it gets there!

cfw, was your prairie all ready hitting that speed before you did your mods? or was it a combonation of everything you did?
