degree key breaking
#1
I was talking with some guys pretty knowledgeable as far as motors ATVs etc. They expressed concern about the ofset keys possibly breaking and screwing up your motor. Has anyone heard anything like this happening. I was going to put one in my KFX and possibly into my Prairie 700 too. But I don't want to have one break and screw things up. We sometimes get a long ways from the truck and don't want to try towing a rig 30 miles especially if it is the prairie having to tow it with my V-Force very far does not sound fun. Is this concern unfounded? Thanks let me know.

They were just saying that the ofset made it so there was less material holding the key and felt it could break. Thats why I asked here because I know a lot of guys have them installed and have commented that the performance was noticable. So I just wanted to ask before getting them if anyone had heard of any problems with them.

The key is not holding the flywheel to the crank, anyway. It is only there to locate the flywheel in the correct position. If the nut is torqued properly, the tapered shank will wedge itself into the flywheel, preventing it from moving. If it is not torqued properly, even the stock key will break.

I beleave I read a post from rubicon20032003? That had a degree bust? I also heard there where some home made keys out there floating around? I would do a search under his ID and email him, see where he got the one that broke? DDracing.com will be your best price for the Key and they only have top of the line products.

I would beware of running a 6 degree key on a 03 or newer with a dyna cdi ,4 degree max you will have a heat problem from what i am seeing! I am not so sure how much dyna is throwing on total advance? From what i learned this weekend i dont think a guy would want more than 36 degrees total although i am not sure what dyna is saying on there total advance my old 02 is about to melt the darn left rear fender off and i got the old holeshot with a 6 key fan just runs all the time and radiator is clean so look in to this! stay safe it dont worry me draging but on a 90 deg day on the trail your gona need cooling dope like that evans stuff I (Think) I am no authority on this, Maybe the dg with the switch would be the ticket so you could just run on the key and throw the switch when you want kill mode?

LOL, I was reading that post and thinking, "well this is exactly what Im wanting to hear about but its not in my post". My total timing is 35 degrees and I think I will be happy right there. If you are having heating problems maybe you should try my " temperature reduction mods". Cant hurt and they are not permenant mods.
