degree key breaking
I would like to add my .02 with regards to tapered cranks. I know on the GS1100 that the taper does not hold very well as these are notoriuos for spinning the alternator rotor on the crank. The old procedure was to clean the crank and use a liberal amount of red Loctite to help locate and then OVERtighten the nut. Even this did not help all the time. Suzuki went to a larger taper in 1983 that did help to some degree. I wish the GS had a key like the Prairie to help locate it. Anyway, just speculating that the taper may not hold as well as many might think.
JH,
Advancing the timing 6 degrees might have leaned you out a bit which could be contributing to your heat problems. With proper jetting, advancing the timing, within reason should help you run cooler. KOD has done a lot of research on cooling on the Prairie and his advice would be good.

I had a dg key break. It was only in there a couple of days and broke. It ended up costing me more money then it was worth. The key from dg didn't fit right in there to start .It had play on the crank.Dg anwer was installed wrong.I put a stock back in and it has 500+ miles on it and it was installed the same way.And it didn't break.Dg customer service is a joke .They woudn't even offer to send out a replacement.I just had a buddy with a another dg key break it was installed by our dealer.I think they had a bad batch of them thats it .
