HEY GUYS, SO WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH ALL THE HEAT AND HOW DO WE CONTAIN IT??? IT IS HOT ENOUGH TO FRY THE LEG! SO DOES IT COOL DOWN AFTER THE INITIAL BREAK IN PERIOD WHEN WE TURN IT LOOSE OR WHAT- ANY INPUT AND ADVISE IS APPRECIATED!! THANX!

 

I believe it was KOD, that wraped the first foot or two of the exhaust pipe with header wrap or something similar. (he will say for sure) but he did say it worked.

 

I have the same issue, forget riding with shorts, my left leg gets fried!
Has anyone found a good option?

Kisssofdeath got exhaust wrap for his pipes. He had extra and I used it on mine too. We mainly did it to reduce the fan cycles. But, it does reduce the heat coming out from gehind the palstic.

We P650 owners have a guard that you are missing, that is the main reason we don't have your heat issue.

If you wrapped your exhaust, it would probably work wonders for your left leg to prevent burning.

Also, you wil put out a lot of extra exhaust heat if your needles are lean. Make sure it is jetted right.

Just for the record I don’t notice this as being a problem with mine. I went on a 100 mile trip through the PA mountains a couple of weekends ago and although I had riding pants & boots on, the heat thing just wasn’t an issue. It doesn’t bother me riding around the farm either wearing jeans and casual shoes, although I never have rode it wearing shorts before (and I probably won’t either – too many briars around)...

 

the first 100 miles mine was bad, after the first service and putting on the dyna cdi box i dont noitce it hardly at all

 

I haven't thought about it until I read this thread, but the heat issue has disappeared over time. I've got somewhere around 30 hours on the Brute and I'm not noticing the heat on my leg like I did when I first bought it. There still is some heat, but nothing like the solar winds that used to come off of the left side at <15 hours of use.

Just a shot in the dark but maybe this explains why the prairie beat the brute that day at the dealer. Maybe the brute is detuned for a set time then opens up. dont sound likely but is very possible.
