P700 Battery Problems
I'm a newby to this forum and ATV's in general. I just bought a new 04 Prarie 700 Twin. I've had to recharge the battery several times. After taking it back to the dealer the 3rd time they told me that I need to buy a battery tender to solve the problem. The battery will slowly discharge by its self. Evidently there are some electronics in the system that stay activated even thought the key is turned off. In spite of this the dealer said that the charging system is still within spec. I don't know if this is true or if the dealer is yanking my chain. Has anyone one this forum had similar problems with their machine? Thanks in advance.

You can unhook one cable from the battery and hook a 12 volt test light between that battery post and the cable. If the light lights up, then you have something pulling power from the battery. If it does not light up, then sounds like you have a bad battery. You should not have to hook it up on a trickle charge.

P700 Battery Problems
Reddog,
I agree with Cuda. I have had my Prairie 700 since October '03 and don't ride it as much as I would like to, but I have never had to charge my battery. Seeing that you just bought your quad, it should still be under warranty. If the dealer can't fix it, maybe call Kawasaki directly to report the dealers' inability to repair their machines and that may strike a fire. It's just a suggestion, but I would be pissed and would not accept that crap for an answer. I am sorry to sound so harsh, but these things are not cheap and the last thing you want to do is pay for something, you are not happy with. If it becomes a continuing problem, become a nuisance in their shop and let other "potential" customers hear your frustration.
Good luck,
Dogg
