Default lookin at a kfx700

I've been reading for a while but I still have a few questions. i have 250 ex and can drive the hell out of it and can go anywhere anyone else can but I need more power. Lookin at buying a 700 kfx, I have read that the tranny whines quite a bit and its annoying is this true? Is it good for slow technical trail riding with control and no burned up belts? I run wide open on sand too. I run the trails at tellico so stability and driveability is a concern. How is it jumping trees and rocks? Water? I like to climb hills too. Should I just try to modify the 250 EX or will the 700 work?

The 700 KFX will go just about anyplace any other sportquad can go and some place most others can't. The whine is something that you soon don't even notice and when you pipe it you can't hear it anymore. It has more ground clearance than just about any other sportquad and less maintance. It is heavy compared to your 250 it jumps good but lands hard compared to the lighter quads. It is stable and goes good in the sand. I think you can take it deeper in water than most sportquads. Best advice is ride one, if it fits you and like it you will know right away.

found a guy locally who is selling one with "only a couple hours" on it for 4900 bucks. From what I see out there, there isn't anything comparable to do the things i want. I don't want to clutch all the time either. the big 4x4's are way too heavy. The wolvarine is also an option, but I don't like the fulltime 4x4 on it.

i do alot of trail riding and i actually prefer my V to my prairie. it goes just about anywhere i want it to go. although of course the prairie will go more places, i guess i like being able to run the V wide open on the straight aways.

I have a V 700 also. It is one bad bike. I don't know how people are able to drag race them. It has so much torque, I can't keep the front tires on the ground. Even if I hange over the bars and put my butt as far front as I can, it will pop a wheelie. A friend of mine got on it and hit the throttle and it flipped over and landed on him. An ambulance had to rush him to a small local hospital where he was flown flight for life to a large hospital. It didn't just tip over, it had so much momentun that is was like he was shot into the ground with a catapolt. He has a concussion and really bruised back and ego, but he will be fine. So you have to be careful.
I don't like the thumb throttle. The machine is real quick to react. So when the trail yanks you hand a little, its real easy to give it a little thumb pressure and that is all it takes for the front end to lift. Has anyone tried using a hand throttle grip like a motor cycle? Does anyone make one?

It is wiser to stay with the thumb throttle than having a throttle like a motorcycle. That way when you fall back you release your thumb, than rather trying to reverse your hand trying to hold on and giving it more throttle. I own a V-Force and it it a lot easier releasing your thumb.

I have already done it and I love it. Its just like a motor cycle. No more hitting a bump while climbing a hill and almost flipping over. The difference is that you wrist is not as subject to movement on a bump as your thumb is. I have heard all the pros and cons for the mod, and I think its worth doing. You do want to get a hand throttle that is 1/4 rotation verses some racing ones that are 1/8 rotation. I think that is the right amount. Anyway, the most rotation you can get between full and idle. I am a large man and I am pretty strong, so I don't have a problem with the bars pushing against my wrist while I twist the throttle. If you do have a problem, you can add a steering damper to help with this.

We rode in some serious trails in Nevada two weekends ago, and the guy with the V-force with the twist throttle had a hard time being careful with the twist throttle...he complained that while we were traversing a rocky trail with cliff on one side, his weight on the bars was enough to twist the throttle by accident, and what made it scary was it was a really slow rocky trail and as he got tossed around he says he almost launched himself off the side a couple of times....he says he is going back to the thumb throttle right away.

He says he would rather rest his hand and body weight on the bars, and manipulate the throttle with his thumb....

I used to complain about the thumb throttle, but the more I've gotten used to it, the better I like it, for the quads.
