New Mojave 250 Owner - Need Advice - Used parts & Shop manual
Hello,
I just got a used 1993 Mojave 250 for $400.00. Its in pretty good condition, and the plastic & seat are still nice. The previous owner informed me that when the bike is warmed uo that it stalls and will not restart. I have had it cut out once on me in the last 3 days. I kicked it a few times, no luck. Waited about 30 seconds and it started right up. Felt like something electrical cutting out. Has anyone ever seen this before? Any suggestions? Then I rode it around the farm for about 25 more minutes with no problem. And I ran it Hard.
Other observations about my Mojave:
-- Not enough Power. The only power it makes is in the very high rpm range, then it pulls pretty hard for a 4 stroke 250. Makes me miss my old Warrior (not that it had enough power either)
-- Enigne sounds kinda beat. Hopefully a valve adjustment will help quiet this top end noise. PO said someone put a timing chain in it recently, I am going to double check everything when I get the Manual.
++ Lightfooted & nimble, good for the woods
++ rides a decent wheelie for such an old quad
++ above average condition for its age, and anyway you cut it $400.00 was a Deal. Got 4 brand new tires on it also, cheap tires that kinda suck. Still..new tires on a quad of this price - Ye Haw'

Howdy- yes, valve adjustment is something ya need to keep an eye on pretty closely, sepecially if ya wind it up regularly. Only other recommenadtion at this point- if ya haven't already is to rebuild/ clean the carburetor. Too bad they don't make'em anymore, though...........

A few questions about the 400EX carb on a mojave. Does it pretty much bolt on, or is major modifications required? Does the 400EX carb have an accelerator pump? Is it a flat or round slide carb OR a crappy CV carb like the factory mojave carb?

... The 400ex carb is a bolt in affair, though it is a bit bigger because it has an accelerator pump so you will not be able to use the stock airbox, however a clamp on UNI filter will take care of that, a 4 1/2 inch long unit will work here. You'll also need the thumb throttle from a 400ex or a twist throttle made for a 400ex.

I adjusted the valves, the intakes had no lash at all. The upper engine noise is still present though. The cams look like they have been ran without enough lbrication in the past. I cracked open the oil line going into the head and seem to have oil pressure to the top end. Are these mojave's hard on Cams & Rockers? Anyone else experience upper engine noise on thier mojave 250?

... There have been some experiences that the front cam will not get enough oil under certian- unrealistic circumstances. One of my experiences- and I thought that it was the valves, was the stock silencer. Do you still have the stock silencer? If so there are 2 measures available; ditch the stock silencer or repack it. Funny though- my 97 'kota doesn't make the valve out of adjustmnet noise like the mojave's did. Good luck- and let me know what ya find..
