Lakota Sport or Mojave
#1
I have a 2002 Lakota Sport and i've had it for about six months, i have had quite a bit of problems with it and have put alot of money in it but i think it is fun to ride and it has decent power, i do alot of trail and track riding. My friend is selling his 03 Mojave for 1900 and it has a few small mods. I like the idea of a cluch but i dont like the fact that it has electric start. Should i sell my lakota and get the mojave, which would i be happier with? any input would be great, thanks

What type of problems are you having with your quad? Are they lack of maintenance problems? mechanical, drivetrain problems, need to explain. I think the mojave excells in the woods/trail category. As far as, not having a electric start. Goki makes one that bolts on the mojave
I'd say ride your friends quad, do a comparison and go from there. The price is right IMOon the mojave.
And welcome to the forum

Hey holeshotz8436, i can't believe that your having problems with your lakota. Well anyway i do the same type of riding as you and have to say that the lakota sport is great at it and it never fails to do anything that i want it to do. Lakota's loves the trails but at the same time it's not to saby on the track well at least mines not with the mods i have. I also put a lot of money into my quad but in aftermarket parts and have never had a problem ever with the motor or anything. The lakota's are really reliable machines so i don't know what the problem is. I think that lakota's can rip if you put on the right parts and i'm sure i can take a mojave even with a little mods on it. Also the kickstart is not hard at all to do and you'll get use to it fast. Mybe in the winter time it will take longer. For how much the lakota weights i still can get a lot of air at my track and can get around pretty fast but the mojave weights a hell of a lot lighter. I have to say i love the lakota sport but at the same time that a kick a$$ deal for a mojave, and i like how mojave are liquid coold. Pretty much the lakota's and mojave are the same but for the track the mojave might be better becasue of the clutch and weight but for the trails i would go with the lakota. If your friends mojave is in good condition and was not really ridden hard i would say how can you pass that up. Although i love my lakota sport and will never get rid of it because how much work i did to it and am still going to do to it. But my next quad will be a KFX400!

thanks for the response, the problems that i have had are just normal wear and tear on the quad for the most part, for example i had to get new sprockets and a chain, new rear tires and new swing arm berrings all in the past two weaks. Also a few months back when i just got it i was climing a hill sortof fast and my chan fell off my front sprocket and smashes off the part right under it which put a big hole in the transmission cover and all the oil poured out. so far i have spent over 800 dollars just replacing parts on my lakota and i only have had it for six months. By the way the mojave has a F&F powercore 4 pipe, maier plastics, dg nerf bars, Itp T-9's and spider-tracs in the rear

Sounds like a lapse of maintenance From the sounds of it, your hard on the rear end I take it you bought it used, seeing it's a 2002. If you've only had it for 6 months, how was the previous owner riding it and taken care of it? If it was riden through a lot of water, mud, etc. and not grease, lubed or bearings repacked. Problems will happen. Again, that is a he!! of a price for that mojave Good Luck on your choice

Hey TRIXX, i don't now if your talking to me but i'm the only one here with a lakota with a bumper so you must be. They make this bumper specialy made for each quad and yes you can get it for the mojave. If you go to rockymountainatv.com and look under mojave they have the same bumper as mine and a few other bumpers to choose from. The V-pro is my favorite and it looks great too.
