Some states dont recognize 2ups as atvs, they are orv's like the honda pilot/odyssey or a mule/rhino/ranger. Other states say they are fine for trails, depends on where you live.
Utah doesnt have much for restrictions on anything.

Yamihoo,
here in MN there is a cc limit of 800 cc and a weight limit of 900 lbs. Anything above this is considered a OHV.
I noticed your pic in your album "Holyoke Heaven". I've been through Holyoke a couple times riding before the enviro-***** shut down most of the trails we used to ride.

But is it legal to ride 2 up on a single rider machine in Canada? Here in Ca. it's a no no, but I see it all the time in Utah, and no one seems to care.

In Canada, you can ride two up as long as you have one of the bolt on back seats, and fender protectors w/ foot pegs. I was unaware that a two up quad (ie. bombardier, Arctic Cat) are illegal in Canada. I have seen them go through patrols on the trails in the province of Quebec, and never seen one given a hassle.

lep7mm, you're right, I had the cc and weight confused thanks for clearing that up. But I think there are more ridable trails out there now more than ever (Nemadji State Forest) I grew up riding out there, about 20 years. I"ve met the forestry guys out there a few times, but never the DNR trail patrol. There are very few of them. BUt the forestry guys are a bunch of yahoos. They don't have there act together and the trail signs are often mixed up ( I suppose this could be some trickster riders also) so bad you can virtually ride everywhere. You go on an "open" trail", get to the end, and there will be a "closed" sign there. Also near the nemadji state forest are hundreds of acres of County forfeit land, which you can cut it loose and ride anywhere. THe loggers always do way more damage than we'll ever do. Log skidders put 2 foot deep by 2 foot wide ruts in the earth.
Overall, I think legistrators should be more concerned about the weight instead of HP. Its the weight that does damage more than spinning the tires on a lighter weight machine. THey can all spin the tires in mud, no matter what the CC's.

As defined in the ORV regulations, an ATV is described as: “is designed to carry a driver only and no passengers” (MTO's description of ATV's are derived from the ansi standards used by the manufacturers).
But they sell Artic Cat 2up factory ATV and Bombarder 2up Traxter ATV in Canada. So that being said I dont think they really care about the Goverment reg.
